EZ-mae. I’ve never heard the other pronunciation. I always assumed it was like [name]Rene[/name]/[name]Renee[/name].

Ez-mee and I’ve never heard anything else. I knew an [name]Esmeralda[/name] that went by [name]Esme[/name](prn: ez-mee). Personally Im not fond of either but Ez-[name]Mae[/name] just really rubs the wrong way.

Erm. Ez-Muh. Guess that would be neither.

That could be because the only time I’ve heard the name spoken out loud (my aunt, calling for her grandmother) it was said like that.

Esmé (with or without the accent) is French so it should be pronounced “ez-mae”.

I have never heard the name Esmeout loud, so I always assumed it was Ez-mee. I think either pronunciation is pretty.

I’ve always heard it EZ-may. Huh. I had no idea others were out there pronouncing it differently!

I agree with [name]Mischa[/name]. Though I would like to point out most people (at least in [name]America[/name]) would probably pronounce it es-mee, though most berries would know the correct pronunciation. So your poll is probably kinda skewed if you’re wondering how most people would pronounce the name.

I pronounce it with the [name]May[/name]. But honestly the spelling and pronunciation problems is the main reason I don’t like the name.
It sounds too much like asthma when a lot of people say it.

Ez-mae is the correct way and the way most will know it thanks to Twilight

I like your analysis - spell it Esmée to avoid confusion.

Catloved - I haven’t seen Twilight (or read), and neither have my friends or younger cousins.

I am staggered that there is any discussion on the pronunciation, the correct pronunciation is EZ [name]Mae[/name].

I didn’t say all, I said “most”… I’m sure there are some groups of people, like yours, that haven’t read or seen it, but that’s just one small group in a billion of people…

[name]Esme[/name] is “ez-mee”
Esmée is “ez-MEH” (Emphasis on the second syllable. The sound é doesn’t exist in English, but it’s close to “eh”. It does not sound like “ay” at all.)
