With an anglo surname, I’d say EE-va. With a Spanish surname, I’d say EH-va.
I say EE-va and I live in [name]Canada[/name].
I say EE-va because its a family name and that is the way that we all say it. I have also heard EH-va though
I’m from [name]California[/name], but live in Oregon now, and I pronnounce it EE-vah. Though if I’m pretending to be British, I say Ay-vah.
EE - va (UK)
My sister has a daughter named, [name]Eva[/name]. She pronounces it EE-vah, but she has been surprised by how often it gets pronounced either AY-vah or EH-vah.
I know more than one [name]Eva[/name], as far as I can tell it has to do with nationality, the anglo ones I know say “ee” the hispanic ones say “eh”
I say EE-vah, unless the person is of Spanish or Latin descent, in which case it’d be AY-vah.
I say AY-vah… For no other reason than I like talking in other accents/languages, etc. [name]Eva[/name], said like AY-vah, is so much more interesting to me than EE-vah. If I saw it spelled out as [name]Eva[/name], though, I would ask if it was EE-vah or AY-vah, but I personally prefer AY-vah.
Oh, I’m in Pennsylvania.
I guess this is a name you would have to ask about, [name]Ive[/name] never met an [name]Eva[/name] said “ay vah” all the hispanic [name]Eva[/name]'s I know us “eh vah” and the anglo ones use “ee vah” but I guess “ay vah” is an option in some countries?
EE-vah from Nebraksa, USA (The mid-west region) Though I do know a few people from around here who say Ay-vuh
I pronounce [name]Eva[/name] as EE-vah, because I know a girl whose name is [name]Eva[/name], and she pronounces her name that way. The only time I’ve heard AY-vah was in the case of [name]Eva[/name] Mendes, who is an American actress. I have never heard EH-vah.
I’m in [name]Louisiana[/name], and I’d say “EE va” but I know 2 [name]Eva[/name]'s, one that’s pronounced “EE va” and one pronounced “AY va”.
Well, everyone I’ve known with the name has been European or Latina, and it’s really somewhere between Ay va and Eh va, but for my own accent (mix of various US accents but really more southern than anything else) closer to Eh va, so that’s what I chose. But if I saw [name]Eva[/name] [name]Smith[/name] or sth very anglo, I might guess Ee va. I would probably ask for guidance and certainly wouldn’t be surprised by any 3 of these prns really. Maybe mildly at Ay va, because it seems like spelling it [name]Ava[/name] would be easier in that case.
I am in Australia and we pronounce [name]Eva[/name] like EE-va, AY-va would be spelled [name]Ava[/name] and I have never heard the Eh-vah way before.
To me-EE-vah. I think the movie “Deliver Us From [name]Eva/name” is what influences me. I’m from Pennsylvania too.
I pronounce it like EE-va, but I know a woman who goes by Eh-va. I think both EE-va and Eh-va are equally pretty. Good luck.
I say EE-vah because it’s a family name and that is how we all pronounce it, and everyone else I know with the name pronounces it like that too. Oh, I’m in [name]England[/name].
I have an [name]Eva[/name], and everyone assumes EE-va (which is the pronunciation we use). I’m in the U.S. I think if you wanted any other pronunciation in the U.S., you would be correcting people all the time.
