I love [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] and [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f]! So beautiful! And people wouldn’t have a hard time saying the right pronunciation.
I pronounce it Eh-va.
Wow, this is interesting. I didn’t know there was a pronunciation issue with [name_f]Eva[/name_f]. I thought everyone pronounced it ee-vah.
Me too, I’m from the US. @olseria where are you from?
Ditto for me. Is it regional differences maybe? I am from [name_f]Canada[/name_f].
I say ee-va, but I have heard people say eh-va.
All 3 are correct, but in the US I think EE-vah is most popular. [name_m]Just[/name_m] depends on language/accent/preference.
I say Ee-vah, but I’ve been told that with my southern accent, it can sound closer to A-vah. I’ve asked my co-worker to pronounce it as she has a very very thick southern accent and it does sound a bit closer to A-vah, though not really. Hard to explain. It’s like Eeay-vah. But the intent is Ee-vah.
I would naturally say Ee-va but I have two Hispanic friends named [name_f]Eva[/name_f] pronounced Ay-va.
I say EE-vah, but AY-vah and EH-vah are familiar to me. I, too, know several Latina women named [name_f]Eva[/name_f], and it’s sort of a mix between AY and EH for the beginning (the European “E”!). I think, at least in the US, EE-vah is what’s most expected, but you might get the Spanish “eh” if you are around a large Latinate population.
I love [name_f]Eva[/name_f]! It’s one of my absolute favorites. [name_f]Lydia[/name_f], [name_f]Anna[/name_f], and [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] are all beautiful names, but I would pick [name_f]Eva[/name_f] over all of them anyday. [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] would be my second pick. [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]'s nice, I suppose, but it doesn’t hold a candle to [name_f]Eva[/name_f], for me.
Good luck!
Depends on where you are from I guess, the Americanized version is “Ee-va” while Europeans will likely pronounce it “Eh-va” or “Eh-fa”.
I pronounce it EH-vuh, though I know both EH-vuhs and AY-vuhs.
I’m American, and I read it Eh-va, but I do have an aunt who is an Ee-va.
I’d say if you live in a place with a typical pronunciation, then this name won’t be too much of an issue.
I don’t know very many Evas; all but one has pronounced it as EE-vah. The remaining one was AY-vah. Her mom was from the Ukraine, so perhaps this is how the name is pronounced there.
If you want another [name_f]Eve[/name_f]-option, what about [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]?
Of your choices besides [name_f]Eva[/name_f], I love [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f].
Good luck!
I naturally pronounce [name_f]Eva[/name_f] as ee-va, but I much prefer the Eh-va pronunciation. Ee-va sounds harsh to me, Eh-va sounds lighter.
