Not sure how a (native) English speaker would traditionally pronounce Isaline & Isoline.
- Eye-suh-leen
- Eye-zuh-leen
- Other (please let me know!)
Not sure how a (native) English speaker would traditionally pronounce Isaline & Isoline.
with an ee sound, not an eye sound!
Ee-suh-leen or ee-soe-leen
edit: Louisiana here, solely speak English
For primarily English-speaking countries as well? I know it is the proper way in other languages, but I am wondering how people who solely speak [name_f]English[/name_f] pronounce it. In my American mind I think to pronounce it “eye,” so I was wondering if that’s the typical [name_f]English[/name_f] pronunciation.
I would probably be tempted to say IZ-a-line like a combination of [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] and [name_f]Caroline[/name_f].
i maybe would change your poll description to be for “native english speakers” then, instead of just “english speakers” that said i’d still assume most people would say it with an “ee” due to its similarity to isabel, isabella and isadora!
and that’s why i’d say it with an “iz” sound
Native [name_f]English[/name_f] speaker; I’d say IZ-uh-leen.
Good point to mention “native,” thank you!
Midwest USA accent
Ee-sah-line
Ee-sew-line
[name_u]True[/name_u], actually! I think I may have just changed it to a long “i” sound due to preference because it would make more sense for me to think the same actually
Yes, this was my thought as well!
Native speaker, and i would say ih-zuh-leen and ih-so-leen.
i’m a native speaker and i would intuitively pronounce this ee-suh-line!
Haha I didn’t think of that one! I’m seeing lots of variations here! I’m sure the different dialects affect the pronunciation as well. I guess it’s not something as straightforward for us in [name_f]English[/name_f] as “Ann” or “May” or “Grace.”
Eye-suh-line for [name_f]Isaline[/name_f], more eye-soh-leen for Isoline.
maybe not as straightforward, but i do really like it! it’s quite beautiful
[name_f]Isaline[/name_f] → Izz-uh-leen or izz-uh-line (but probably the -leen would be my guess)
Isoline → Izz-oh-line or Izz-oh-leen (-line would be by instinct). However, I might guess Eye-zo-line too…
I’m aware that’s probably not very helpful
[name_f]Isaline[/name_f] - eye-suh-leen
Isoline - ih-zoh-line (long o sound)
Not a native [name_f]English[/name_f] speaker but
ee-zuh-leen
ee-zo-leen (zo like “zoe” but one syllable, not zo-ee)
