Pronunciation Poll

We are trying to get an idea of how badly our girl’s name would be mispronounced at school, etc. :stuck_out_tongue: Taking a poll on how you would pronounce “Mavey”. Thank you!!!

[name_f]Maeve[/name_f]-ee like wavy with an M

I would pronounce it the same way as zpk. The problem with Mavey I think would be spelling rather than pronunciation- it looks pretty straightforward to pronounce but could be spelled Mavey, Mavy, Mavie, etc.

I would say it like “may-vee”…

Wavy with an m.

[name_m]Just[/name_m] to add another Wavy -with M beginning.
It seems very straight forward with this spelling.
Please tell-is this not correct? Your pronunciation? I am in suspense

Wavy with an m

I’d also say MAYV-ee.

Another vote for [name_f]MAY[/name_f]-vee (like wavy), but I do see how it could be pronounced MAH-vee.
Such a cute name! Although if someone said “hi my name’s Mavey”, I wouldn’t know how to spell it unless they told me.

[name_f]May[/name_f] vee…

another one for [name_f]MAY[/name_f]-vee…

Emphasis on [name_f]May[/name_f] with the letter V said aloud after it. [name_f]MAY[/name_f]-vee.

Agree with this.

Maybe with a v instead of a b.

[name_f]MAY[/name_f]-vee, like wavy with an M, as others have said.

Agreed with most of the other pps; [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]-ee/wavy with an m.

Thanks for all of your replies. This is what I was worried about…Mavey (or Mavie…still undecided:)) is a nickname for my great grandmother’s name, Mavet (‘a’ as in the word ‘have’) so we were pronouncing the ‘a’ as in ‘have’ for Mavie as well, but after doing an online search realized that most pronounce it as you all have. Not sure if we want to name our child something we will constantly be correcting or just go with it since it’s our favorite and very sentimental. Thoughts?

‘A’ as in ‘had’. :stuck_out_tongue: It is short for my great grandmother’s name, Mavet…‘a’ pronounced the same. Neither of us like Mavet (and don’t want her to be named Mavet but go by Mavey) so we wanted to go with a nickname as given name, but the trouble is most are pronouncing it as you all have. :frowning: Not sure whether to keep searching or just go with it and be forced to correct the pronunciation all the time. We love the name but don’t want her to hate it for this reason. Thoughts?

I think perhaps with the spelling Mavee also throws in the proper pronunciation. When looking at Mavee, I would pronounce it how you pronounce Mavey.

I’d pronounce it as may-vee too. If it’s supposed to rhyme with savvy rather than wavy then I’d suggest just putting another v in the name to ensure people would pronounce it correctly. So it’d be Mavvey or Mavvie (personally I prefer the latter).
