To anyone from the UK, particularly [name]England[/name], how do you pronounce the name [name]Dahlia[/name]? It’s one I may consider for my little girl, but only if people are more likely to use my preferred pronunciation.
I pronounce it [name]Day[/name]-lee-uh as I think do most Brits. I know people in the US pronounce is Dah-[name]Lee[/name]-uh though.
[name]Bree[/name]
I’m in the Midlands and I say Dah-lee-uh and most of my friends pronounce it that way too. [name]One[/name] of my friends has a little [name]Dahlia[/name] in her class but it is spelt as [name]Dalia[/name] still prn. as Dah-lee-uh though.
I’m originally from [name]London[/name] and I say it like [name]DAY[/name]-lee-uh.
I would pronounce it DAH-lee-uh (I’m originally from Manchester). I think it differs depending on the area you live in.
Dah-lee-uh I’m from the [name]North[/name] [name]West[/name]
DAH-lee-uh, I’m from the South [name]East[/name]
I grew up in [name]London[/name] and I say day-lee-ah.
I’m a Londoner -
[name]Day[/name]-lee-uh (I sense a trend )
I’m from Yorkshire -
I pronounce it Dah-lee-ah
Can somebody who pronounces it [name]Day[/name]-lee-uh explain how you are getting the ‘[name]Day[/name]’ sound, cause I’ve never heard it pronounced that way and I don’t understand where the sound is supposed to be from
My preferred pronunciation is [name]DAY[/name]-lee-ah and I’ve lived in and out of [name]London[/name] for most of my life and plan to stay near/close for a good few years more at least, so I may be okay with it
I’m honestly not sure where [name]DAY[/name] comes from, but that’s the only way I’ve ever heard it. I remember our English teacher stressing to us that it should definitely be said [name]DAY[/name]-lee-ah, not DAH-lee-ah (can’t remember for the life of me what book/poem we were reading though…).
I’m from west midlands and both myself and OH say DAH-lee-ah
I love [name]Dahlia[/name] and I pronounce it DAH-lee-ah.
[name]Day[/name]-lee-a. [name]North[/name] [name]West[/name]
DAH-lee-uh I’m from the south-east
I found a great site it is called forvo.com they might have it on there and you can hear how the name sounds.
[name]DAY[/name]-lee-uh, although I’ve heard others say DAH-lee-uh, I’m from the South-east.
