Pronunciation

[name]Blanche[/name]. I’ve been seeing this name around but have absolutely no idea how to pronounce it. [name]How[/name] would you guys say it?

I know a middle-aged woman with this name. The E on the end is silent, and it rhymes with “branch.”

I pronounce it like the second voice, although my accent isn’t that thick! It was my hubby’s grandmother’s name.

In English: “blan-ch”, rhymes with branch
In French: “blawn-sh”

It’s much prettier when pronounced the French way

This is also how I say it. My only association is [name]Blanche[/name] from the [name]Golden[/name] Girls (a very old television show about a bunch of old ladies). Despite the very “old” association for me, I would love to meet a little [name]Blanche[/name].

Also a character in the [name]Tennessee[/name] [name]Williams[/name] play, A Streetcar Named Desire.

I say it like PP said, rhyming with branch.

Blawn-tch is roughly how to pronounce it. I have never heard it being pronounced rhyming with branch and personally don’t like it at all. I’m from a slightly French speaking area and don’t think anyone would pronounce it the branch way.

I agree with nat108. It sounds harsh in English. The French pronunciation is much better.

I pronounce it the English way, rhyming with branch. I like it a lot.
