Prosper, possible (less imposing) nickname of Pip

What do you think?

Posting with some trepidation, as I keep having ‘eureka’ moments with boys names.
But I like everything about this one- the meaning, the sound, the look of it…

What’s the consensus on this one?

I love the sound and the meaning! I don’t know if I’d be bold enough to use it, personally.

[name]Pip[/name] as a nickname is cute enough when he’s a baby but I don’t think it ages well.

Other nicknames: Pro, [name]Ross[/name].

I think it might be safer in the middle.

Good luck!

[name]Pip[/name] is cute! [name]Prosper[/name], however, seems silly to me. I just want to say “live long and” before it. I think it would be confusing and annoying to be named [name]Prosper[/name]. I’ve never thought of [name]Prospero[/name] as a wearable name, but it’s definitely way more wearable than [name]Prosper[/name]. It’s got Shakespearean ties, minimizes the star trek connection, and isn’t a literal word, all of which make me take it a bit more seriously than [name]Prosper[/name].

I like [name]Prosper[/name] nn [name]Pip[/name]. I think its meaning is wonderful and it has an awesome look and sound. If parents are choosing other word names for their children (eg. [name]Scarlett[/name], [name]Story[/name], [name]Fable[/name], [name]Chase[/name], [name]Reed[/name], [name]Truth[/name], [name]Genesis[/name], [name]Haven[/name], [name]Chance[/name]), I don’t see why [name]Prosper[/name] couldn’t join them in the playground. It’s rare, quirky and spunky!

I agree with mischa in that people are choosing a lot of word names now. If people can name their kids [name]Patience[/name], [name]Temperance[/name], [name]Justice[/name], [name]Loyal[/name]…or any of the ones [name]Mischa[/name] listed, I’m sure [name]Prosper[/name] would fit right in.

I actually don’t mind it too much. I think there might be a little giggling with the parents of other kids because they’re the one who’ll think [name]Star[/name] Strek, but the kids his age won’t care I don’t think I. [name]Pip[/name] makes a cute nickname as a kid.

So all in all, I think [name]Prosper[/name] is fine for a first name.

I kind of like [name]Prosper[/name] with the nickname [name]Pip[/name]. Obviously some people might be rude about it, but then again they might have named their sons [name]Jayden[/name] and [name]Brayden[/name]. I think it sounds classic, a little Puritanical but in a good way.

Well, in defence of [name]Prosper[/name] as usable, it’s actually a very popular name in [name]France[/name], and has a long-standing use in [name]Britain[/name]; albeit not one which has continued until today.

I don’t think its any ‘sillier’ than [name]Grace[/name], [name]Honor[/name] or [name]Faith[/name]! I think it sounds like a name, in the same way these do, and once the initial ‘effect’ of its novelty is worn off it has a good cadence; a good rhythm.

Really appreciate opinions on this one; also noting the nickname Pros which I like too.
[name]Pip[/name] is just a nice nickname for a little 'un, granted.

Does anyone has a problem with [name]Prosper[/name] alongside my kids’ other names? I am not a solid ‘matcher’ of names really; I think I’ve heard/said my kids’ names so much I have lost the ability to see them in a more objective stylistic way.
(to repeat- [name]Louis[/name], [name]Hector[/name], [name]Ottilie[/name] and [name]Martha[/name])

Thanks for all the comments- taken earnestly on board.

Ps. [name]Mischa[/name] I was especially happy to see your comment. [name]Glad[/name] some other people like the name too!

[name]Prosper[/name] and [name]Hector[/name] are a tiny bit matchy but it’s not a deal breaker. [name]Prosper[/name] may be more unusual than [name]Louis[/name] and [name]Martha[/name] but I think he’s fine paired with [name]Ottilie[/name]. [name]Ottilie[/name] and [name]Prosper[/name] - I like the way they look and sound together!

I like [name]Prosper[/name]. I remember reading a story when I was a kid, and there was a character named [name]Prosper[/name]. I’m not keen on [name]Pip[/name], though.

I really like [name]Prosper[/name]. There are so many virtue names in use for girls, so why not find some fit for use on boys? [name]Prosper[/name] has a wonderful meaning and an antique but modern feel. A good choice.
