I’ve already posted this on another site but I thought I’d post my question here as well.
I’ve been trying to come up with a term for magical abilities for my fantasy world and the closest I could come up with is psynergy, a portmanteau of psychic and energy. The only problem is, I’m pretty sure this word was first created in a videogame series called The [name_u]Golden[/name_u] [name_f]Sun[/name_f] (which is actually where I first encountered the word). I’ve looked the word up and I’ve seen it used as the name of a place that helps people with personal problems, as well as having been used in a few ebooks according to Google. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it’s alright to use psynergy for my own stories? I don’t want to unintentionally “steal” this word.
**The title is a typo, it’s supposed to be Psynergy.
I’m sure it should be all right to use so long as you try not to repeat the ways psynergy has already been interpreted by those other sources. Make it yours and have fun with it. You may want to check if there is a copyright on the word though; that could get you in trouble if you choose to publish.
Ehh…as much as I wanna say no,I´m gonna have to say yes,mostly because [name_u]Golden[/name_u] [name_f]Sun[/name_f] uses the same root words.Maybe you could do something like extrasense?Extrasensory is already a word meaning pretty much the same as psynergy,so I think it could work.

The way I use psynergy in my story is different, but I wasn’t sure if I could use the word itself since it seems to have been created for the [name_u]Golden[/name_u] [name_f]Sun[/name_f] games. And thanks to you as well hydra My main worry using psynergy was because it’s used in the [name_u]Golden[/name_u] [name_f]Sun[/name_f] games which seems to have been created for the games. I like the word and meaning behind psynergy because it seems to encompass the abilities in my stories. Extrasensory is alright but it doesn’t hold the same appeal. I appreciate your opinion, it did help.
