I’ve recently encountered the name Pyrene (Pie-reen) and I’m definitely intrigued by it, it’s growing on me
I believe it means ‘[name]Flame[/name] Haired’ so it could work on a little red-headed girl?
Let me know what you think?

I’ve never seen this name before, but I did think right upon reading it you’d pn it ‘Pie-reen’, so at least that could be helpful if you decided to go with something so unusual.
To me it sounds a little…unapproachable or tough? I can’t quite think of the word I mean, but it seems like a rather difficult name to manage. Plus, I’d had to ever have people call me Py.
It’s very visually pretty, but I’m not really that sure if I like it or not. It sounds summery and exotic, but slightly vulgar at the same time. I didn’t have any problem with pronunciation, though, as has been pointed out.
I like it’s meaning a lot though. I’ve always been one to fall for red-haired meanings.
I get the fiery connection (pyro/pyre) so it could work from a meaning standpoint, if you were naming a redhead. But I feel it might be a tough name to carry all one’s life. To be honest, it sounds like a chemical product to me (but DH works in the plastics industry so I’m always hearing about styrenes and urethanes and the like, so I’m probably biased there). And it sounds a little like a corruption of [name]Irene[/name] to me, although I’m sure Pyrene probably predates that and is completely unrelated.
I don’t hate it – I just have a few sticking points, I guess.
Maybe I’m too much of a geek but my first impression was that it’s the name of an amino acid. Lysine, cystine, tyrosine, proline, Pyrene… It just flows too well with them. Sorry!
I also thought it sounded very chemical or elemental. I also might be the only one here that would associate it with [name]Sailor[/name] [name]Moon[/name], but there were tons and tons of mineral, gem, space, and elemental names in it.

LOL! That was pretty close to my thought, which was also biological in nature. Pyo- is the medical prefix for anything containing pus, and that was what I thought of immediately when I saw the name. Yuck! Sorry.
