I find the name [name]Quay[/name] visually appealing; but Nameberry states that its a homonym of a girl’s name. I know this may seem a bit daft, maybe its just because I am tired and not thinking clearly: What’s the homonym? What girls name is virtually the same? Oh and is the pronunciation just like key or is it pronounced differently French?
Thanks!
I would assume they must mean [name]Kay[/name], but here [name]Quay[/name] is pronounced ‘Key’…
I would pronounce it ‘Key’ like a wharf… but maybe they mean for it to be pronounced ‘[name]Kay[/name]’ and thus that would be the homonym…
As much as I like to tell people they’re crazy, but [name]Quay[/name]'s more boyish to me. It’s pronounced ki: (like key) in English and keh in French.
I can’t think of a girls name that sounds the same either. Maybe Nameberry just doesn’t realise it’s pronounced ‘key’? It’s wrong about a lot of other meanings etc so…
Either way, it’s a dock, not a name.
Oh I love [name]Quay[/name]! It’s on my boy list.
I had no idea they added [name]Quay[/name] since I don’t recall them listing before. Yes, Nameberry is mispronouncing it as ‘kay’
I’ve seen some students of mine where this is the first syllable of their name where it is either pronounced as “key” or “kway”. I’ve never run into it as “kay.”
I’ve heard the word ‘quay’ a lot the last three years as there’s one near where I went to uni and it’s most definitely pronounced the same as Key, though I guess it could also be said like Kway - like [name]Dan[/name] Quayle, just minus the -le. It’s not really appealing to me at all as a name, but if I had to gender it I’d lean towards boy.
Where I live, we definitely pronounce this as “key” (there’s a prominent quay downtown), and I also see it as more masculine.
