Question about Ames

I’m playing around with the name Ames and really like it. But for those of you who remember, does it remind you of that old department store Ames? It went bankrupt in 2002 but I’m kinda hesitant now. I really like it though! I can only imagine the annoying comments my mother in law will make when she hears it after the baby’s born. “Oh, Ames like the department store?” Yea, mom, that’s exactly it.

What do you think?

I have never heard of the store but it reminds me of the name [name_u]James[/name_u] a lot.

I love it! I’m not familiar with the store but if it doesn’t exist any longer I don’t think you need to be concerned with the association. I’m not sure if the pronounciation of Ames and [name_m]Eames[/name_m] is the same, but you could also consider [name_m]Eames[/name_m].

There is a difference on pronouncing those two names, which stinks because I like the spelling of [name_m]Eames[/name_m] but it’s pronounced Eemz where Ames is pronounced Aymz. I like the sound of Ames better

Ames was very popular in my area but it was so long ago I think it’s fine. It’s honestly a great old fashioned name. Go for it

There’s also [name_m]Amos[/name_m]

I like the name.

Never ever heard of the store. I like the name go for it.

I immediately think of two things…the department store…and myself. My name is [name_f]Amy[/name_f] but I go by Ames a lot.
