Question about Brisa

It means “breeze” in Spanish, but is it an actual name? Or is it just a word that sounds pretty, a la [name]Reverie[/name]?

According to Nameberry, it’s currently at #807 and is used among Latino families. I think that lets it qualify as a name. It’s cute, but I actually like [name]Breeze[/name] better.

Yes it is a name - as is Brise, which means [name]Breeze[/name] in Danish ([name]Bree[/name]-suh)

[name]Brisa[/name] [name]Roch[/name]é is called [name]Brisa[/name]. She’s actually called La [name]Brisa[/name] [name]Day[/name] [name]Roch[/name]é… she’s a wonderful musician.

I know a [name]Brisa[/name]. She’s in her mid twenties and Mexican. Cute name!

My best friend growing up was a [name]Brisa[/name]. It is a Spanish name though so pronounced correctly has a rolled r.

There are about 150 Brisas in Spain currently. The average age for a [name]Brisa[/name] is 16, if that helps? About 30 of them were born outside of Spain, and the majority of those born in Spain were born in [name]Barcelona[/name] (the province, not necessarily the city).
It’s used, but it isn’t common. I’ve heard it before, but never in person.

When I was younger I knew a [name]Brisa[/name] with sister [name]Makani[/name] (“breeze” in Hawaiian.) I remember thinking it was a really cool sibset (they had Hispanic and Hawaiian heritage.)

Similar Spanish word-name: [name]Risa[/name] (“laughter”)

[name]Love[/name] love love [name]Brisa[/name]. My mom’s cousin has a daughter my same age named [name]Brisa[/name]. I think it’s beautiful.

[name]Brisa[/name] became one of the hottest names in [name]America[/name] (though used exclusively among Spanish-speakers) about 3 years ago, due to the popularity of a lead character on a Spanish-language soap opera. Then it became one of the most rapidly falling names. Some theorized that in addition to the character and the pretty meaning, the popular “Br” sound ([name]Brielle[/name], [name]Aubrey[/name], [name]Brianna[/name], etc) helped propel it up.

While I think [name]Brisa[/name] has a pretty sound, the first thing I thought of when I saw the post title was a bris, the ceremony in which a Jewish baby is circumcised.
