Question about Charlot/Sharlow

Hello!

We’re having a girl!
The name [name_m]Charlot[/name_m] (pronounced “SHARlow”) has been on my list for awhile.
My husband is french and vetoed the name because he said it’s a nickname for [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] [name_m]Chaplin[/name_m] in [name_f]France[/name_f] and plus it is a masculine name.
The name [name_m]Charlot[/name_m] though has sentimental ties for both of us.
We also love the name itself (the sound of the name).
So we thought maybe we can change the spelling to make it work.
We thought of Charlow, [name_m]Charlo[/name_m] or Sharlow.
I probably like Sharlow the best, but I don’t think it is a real name!!
I’m not sure how I feel exactly about using a “made-up” name.
Tacky? Strange?
Although the sound of it, for me, does not sound made up at all.
Everyone that hears it says, What a beautiful name. They do not react as if they are hearing a very odd name.
I suppose it’s just the spelling that is unusual. (But it’s certainly not in the “[name_m]Jaxson[/name_m]” made-up category, is it???)

I’m so confused! What are your opinions??? Ideas??

[name_m]Charlot[/name_m] looks to me like it should be pronounced the same as [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and the word “harlot” really sticks out. Sharlow does look made-up to me, but not as weird as some. [name_f]Harlow[/name_f] is a legitimate name, and it’s not too far off of that. [name_m]Charlo[/name_m] is very unusual, but it doesn’t look made-up, it’s phonetic, and it looks classy. I think it’s the best option.

I’d stick with the [name_m]Charlot[/name_m] spelling…anyone who’s had a hs [name_m]French[/name_m] class should get it right, and you can correct the rest. As to [name_m]Chaplin[/name_m], very cool…definite plus!

I think [name_m]Charlot[/name_m] is the best you’re going to get. FWIW, I would MUCH rather be named [name_m]Charlot[/name_m] and have to explain the way its pronounced than be named Sharlow. It just looks like a special snowflake version of [name_f]Harlow[/name_f].

Thanks!! Any other suggestions?
