I love the name [name]Roscoe[/name]. I know that it isn’t going to be everyone’s style, but I just really love it. Here is my dilemma:
My last name is [name]McDonald[/name], same spelling as the fast food place. My understanding from googling the name [name]Roscoe[/name] is that there is a [name]California[/name] fast food place called [name]Roscoe[/name]'s Chicken & Waffles. Is this a huge chain? Am I setting up my kid to have an all-fast-food name?!
My other favorite option was [name]Jasper[/name], until I realized that [name]Jasper[/name] M. in school could look like Ja-SPERM, and that kind of ruined it for me.
[name]Hi[/name]! I’m from the bay area, but I’ve been to [name]Roscoe[/name]'s House of Chicken and Waffles in Hollywood (fried chicken on top of waffles turns out to be surprisingly delicious). But to answer your question, it is not a major chain in [name]California[/name] and I’m guessing most [name]CA[/name] people haven’t even heard of it unless they live in the LA area. I think it has multiple locations in the Los [name]Angeles[/name] area and that’s it. I definitely didn’t think of the restaurant when I heard the name and I couldn’t guess what your concern was with that paired with [name]McDonald[/name] until I read it.
Your question made me laugh a little too because my 3rd son’s initials will be MCD and his nickname will likely be [name]Mac[/name] (for [name]Malcolm[/name]) so I’m guessing some people will think of [name]McDonald[/name]'s.
Awesome! Thank you, [name]Abby[/name]. I’m having a terrible time with boys names, and that was a big hang up for me. [name]Ah[/name], the silly places my mind goes when I contemplate names, but with a name like [name]McDonald[/name], I feel like there is already a ton of teasing potential. I’d like to minimize that. And while I have a cousin named [name]Wendy[/name] [name]McDonald[/name] (twice the fast food!), I feel like the name [name]Wendy[/name] is a little more mainstream than [name]Roscoe[/name] is, so people are more used to hearing it and maybe don’t associate it with [name]Wendy[/name]'s that much.
I’m from the inland empire, and yes, I’ve heard of [name]Roscoe[/name]'s, but not enough that I’d remember that’s what it was called unless you tacked on “chicken and waffles”. I think you’re safe… well, unless it DOES become a huge chain a few years down the road??
I know, [name]Janel[/name], isn’t Ja-SPERM terrible? My first choice was [name]Roscoe[/name] but I was worried about the fast food restaurant so I had decided to focus on [name]Jasper[/name] instead. It’s a family name, and it’s not to common. Then I sat and wrote every variation that I could think of, and that’s where I notice ja-sperm. Ouch. But what a save! Mad skills!
I’m from [name]CA[/name] (lived here my whole life) and I’ve never even heard of it. So you really don’t have to worry about the fast food association.
Also, btw, it’s not even a fast food restaurant. [name]Wendy[/name] [name]McDonald[/name] is something I would not do, but I really don’t think anyone would make the restaurant connection here…
