Question about Simon

[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! I have a question for all of you name experts about the name [name_m]Simon[/name_m].

It’s one of the top names we’re considering for our little guy on the way, but I’m really stuck on [name_m]Simon[/name_m] Says. I feel like there’s a good chance he’ll receive this harmless tease from kids and adults, so my question to you all is how important is that?

It doesn’t bother me, but I almost feel guilty passing this on to our future little boy. I’m sure this same ‘harmless tease’ scenario can apply to many names, so my question doesn’t just apply to [name_m]Simon[/name_m]. Am I just overthinking this? Any insight, opinions, or stories would be greatly appreciated. Wish I could discuss this with my friends but we really want to keep the name a secret. Thanks!!!

Simon’s a solid name and they can easily turn the joke in their favor by saying, “[name_m]Simon[/name_m] says to shut up.” There are much worse and more bully-prone names. [name_m]Simon[/name_m]’s good. Run with it.

I love [name_m]Simon[/name_m]! I don’t think [name_m]Simon[/name_m] says should hold you back

I’ve wondered about this myself! I knew a [name_m]Simon[/name_m] and he was never teased because of this. I don’t think it’s that big of a problem. There are names with much worse teasing opportunities that I’ve seen people pull off.

I don’t associate [name_m]Simon[/name_m] with “[name_m]Simon[/name_m] Says” tbh but even if I did I wouldn’t think it was a negative connotation! I feel word play would be funny and quite charming, I say go for it plus there’s other positive connotations, the book [name_u]Love[/name_u], [name_m]Simon[/name_m] was inspiring to multiple lgbt youth! And I feel that in itself makes it a beautiful connotation :sparkling_heart:

I 100% believe you’re overthinking this. [name_m]Simon[/name_m] is a fairly common and well established name. [name_m]Simon[/name_m] Says is an afterthought for most, if it’s a thought at all. He may get teased about it now and then, but no name is teasing-proof.

I think it’s fine. [name_f]My[/name_f] name is mentioned in a song which people bring up/tease me about but it’s more like a very, very minor irritant than a serious problem. Go with [name_m]Simon[/name_m] if you love it

Thanks everyone for the thoughtful responses! Sounds like I can keep [name_m]Simon[/name_m] on my very short list!

Yes, I so agree @princesspanda!!

@i.wonder if you haven’t seen [name_u]Love[/name_u], [name_m]Simon[/name_m] then please treat yourself. It is a heart-warming movie and will show you a good side to the [name_m]Simon[/name_m] Says association.

With the [name_m]Simon[/name_m] I knew, it only ever came up when we were playing the game!

When I hear [name_m]Simon[/name_m] I think [name_m]Simon[/name_m] [name_m]Peter[/name_m], disciple of [name_m]Jesus[/name_m]. He is one of my favorites. I think it’s a beautiful and honorable name. I would definitely use it! Good luck mama. I know you’ll pick the perfect name!

Simon Says wouln’t be a detraction for me.
There’s really nothing negative about it.
It’s also not a super popular kids game. These days, kids’ll mostly be into electronic games (vs physical/ boardgames).
If you love the name, go for it! It’s a solid name.

Simon’s gorgeous! I never would’ve thought of [name_m]Simon[/name_m] says with the name, it honestly hasn’t crossed my mind for years, and [name_m]Simon[/name_m] is reasonably popular and well-loved. I would say use him!

Friends of ours just used [name_m]Simon[/name_m] for their little guy, and I was SO in love when I heard it! What a classy, strong, underused name.
