Not sure which subforum this fits into but this one seemed best ^^ I’m having a bit of trouble. You see, I really like the name [name_u]Taylor[/name_u]…but only on a boy. I don’t know why but it just loses its appeal to me when used on a girl. It seems…plain but on a boy, it feels fresher. However, I don’t know about you but I feel like this one’s gone to the girls? And I’m feeling a little upset by that because it seems like that’s happening a lot to my boys’ names lately XD I’ve never known a male [name_u]Taylor[/name_u]. Well, not personally. There’s [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] Lautner, of course. But I’ve met two Taylors in my lifetime and both were girls. And if I’m being honest, I do assume girl if I hear the name. Sometimes there is an afterthought like, “I suppose they could be a boy.” But I never really assume they’re a boy to begin with.
Would you assume a [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] is immediately a girl? Is it still usable as a male name or has it gone the way of names like [name_u]Whitney[/name_u] and [name_u]Courtney[/name_u]?
I prefer [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] on a boy, as well. It really does seem fresh and even unexpected. On a girl, it just seems typical, I suppose. I don’t automatically assume a [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] is a girl, though. With how naming trends are and have been, I try not to draw a conclusion either way (note, try: I took a phone call at work the other day and the caller ID said “[name_u]Ashley[/name_u]”. I was not prepared for the booming, burly male voice on the end of the line, introducing himself as “[name_u]Ashley[/name_u].”)
I still have hope for [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] being more widely used on boys. Same for [name_u]Whitney[/name_u], [name_u]Courtney[/name_u], [name_u]Ashley[/name_u], [name_u]Quinn[/name_u], and [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u]. It’s usable, for sure, and I think more parents should choose it good choice!
I would assume girl, and I’d never really considered it for a boy… but I actually quite like it! I definitely prefer it for a boy - it feels sort of preppy-cool, like [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] or [name_m]Thayer[/name_m] or [name_m]Foster[/name_m].
I absolutely love [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] on a boy (as you can see in my sig) and dislike it on a girl. It’s on my GP list for a reason though. I wouldn’t personally be brave enough to use it on a boy because they’re are so many girl [name_u]Taylor[/name_u]'s.
I mean, it’s a very masculine name in my opinion. [name_m]Just[/name_m] Google [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] Kinney!
I prefer it on a boy, too (if at all). My first thoughts are [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] Swift and [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] Lautner, and I think it’s relatively cool on a boy but, like you said, quite plain on a girl. I wouldn’t assume a gender if I heard it, mostly because unisex names that are used in my family are used for both genders ([name_u]Ashley[/name_u], [name_u]Courtney[/name_u], [name_u]Bailey[/name_u], etc.) so I’ve gotten used to not knowing the gender based on the name.
I hear [name_u]Taylor[/name_u], I assume boy. I actually don’t like it as a girls name despite having known both in person. [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] is all boy to me!
Although I do assume girl, I think [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] on a boy is awesome. I have a male cousin named [name_u]Taylor[/name_u], and he wears the name very well. Totally go for it.
I’ve known too many Taylors in my lifetime to count but I know one of them was a boy. He went by TJ, though. I find it to be a bit plain on either sex but I think it works well on a boy.
Probably the most “famous” [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] out there is [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] Swift, I guess. And she’s a female singer so I assume a [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] would be a girl. But there’s also [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] Lautner, as pps mentioned, & I think [name_u]Taylor[/name_u]'s a totally unisex name that is wearable to both boys and girls. Maybe you would consider [name_u]Tyler[/name_u]? Similar sounding name but much masculine.
[name_u]Taylor[/name_u] is 100% androgynous to me. It was one of the most popular names for both boys and girls at my high school. [name_m]Even[/name_m] now that I’m in my early twenties, I still meet just as many male Taylors as female Taylors.
I hear [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] on a boy probably more often than on a girl - same with [name_u]Ashley[/name_u], actually! It’s a nice name, perhaps a bit 90s to me, but nice nonetheless.
I’d say it seems to be used pretty 50/50, at least with the [name_u]Taylor[/name_u]’s I’ve encountered. Actually, now that I think about it, I know more male [name_u]Taylor[/name_u]’s than female.
