After recently reading Sense and Sensibility, I have fallen in love with the name [name_f]Elinor[/name_f]. However I have some concerns/questions about this name.
Would she have to be an “[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]?” My sister’s name is [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], so I would like to avoid my daughter being confused with my sister. Anyway I like [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] in full.
Would this spelling make her life too difficult. I usually don’t like alternative spellings but I think [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] is softer and more modern than [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f].
Does it go well with my son’s name? ([name_u]August[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u])
Thanks!
I don’t think she will automatically be [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]. She can go by the full name or [name_f]Nora[/name_f]. I think the spelling is ok, but I have the opposite thoughts as you. [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] looks harsh and incomplete to me. [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] looks soft and feminine.
The biggest concern would be the spelling. However, [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] is not an unknown spelling (and it is also legitimate), so it probably wouldn’t be too bad.
[name_u]August[/name_u] and [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] go beautifully together! Both are rich, literary names and they sound good when said together.
I do like [name_u]August[/name_u] and [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] together and I don’t think she would automatically be [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] if you never call her that. I love the nn [name_f]Nora[/name_f]. While I prefer the [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] spelling because it is more well know and intuitive, I agree that [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] is a legitimate spelling if you prefer it.
[name_u]August[/name_u] and [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] are a lovely Sibset! One of the best I’ve heard. Although I have to agree with the first post; I think that [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] looks a lot more soft and feminine, while [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] looks harsh and incomplete.
I think [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] and [name_u]August[/name_u] sound lovely together!
I do think that people will automatically go to [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] as a nickname though - not just family, but also friends at school and teachers. As long as you call her by one name and your sister by the other there’ll probably no confusion in your family.
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_u]August[/name_u] and [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] together!
One benefit of this spelling is that, if you didn’t want the nickname [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], you could use the nickname [name_f]Lin[/name_f] or [name_f]Linnie[/name_f], which is very sweet.
I love [name_u]August[/name_u] and [name_f]Elinor[/name_f], so sweet!
[name_f]Elinor[/name_f] could definitely just go by [name_f]Elinor[/name_f]. I’ve known Eleanors who go by their full name and it totally works.
I’m a big [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_u]Austen[/name_u] fan so I get the appeal of [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] and associate it with the sweetness of that character. I agree that it may be a confusing spelling, but it’s nothing crazy, and as others have said, it’s well established. I have to ask people everyday to spell out their names for me, even if they do end up having the normal spelling, and this name will be super easy to spell out and comprehend. I say go for it!
I think [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] is very pretty, though I am partial to the other spelling myself. I think it goes well with [name_u]August[/name_u]. It doesn’t have to default to [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]. I knew an [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] who went by [name_f]Elle[/name_f] (like the magazine or [name_f]Elle[/name_f] Woods from Legally Blonde). You could also just call her by her full name or [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] or [name_f]Nor[/name_f] (almost like [name_f]Queen[/name_f] [name_f]Noor[/name_f]).
