Questions about Hazel

I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Hazel[/name]! I know an awesome 5 year old [name]Hazel[/name] who is intelligent, confident, and spunky and has beautiful, red, curly hair. Her name suits her perfectly. I think [name]Hazel[/name] Hand is fine. I don’t mind the alliteration. A longer middle would make it less choppy, so I prefer [name]Lillian[/name] to [name]Lily[/name]. Also [name]Hazel[/name] [name]Lily[/name] sounds like a type of flower to me. [name]Hazel[/name] [name]Lillian[/name] is great!

[name]Hazel[/name] is a nice name and if you love it go for it. My name (fn-mn) is alliterative and its not a big deal. My [name]SIL[/name] is technically a [name]Hazel[/name] but has never gone by it until recently.

You know, when I read [name]Hazel[/name] [name]Lillian[/name] again, I realized some might be bothered by the L’s at the end of [name]Hazel[/name] and beginning of [name]Lillian[/name] running into each other. [name]Susannah[/name] would be a good way to avoid that issue. I prefer this spelling to [name]Suzannah[/name]. [name]Shoshana[/name], the Hebrew form is also very pretty. I like [name]Hazel[/name] [name]Shoshana[/name]. [name]Hazel[/name] [name]Suzette[/name] is pretty darn cute, too!

If your last name starts with ‘H’, I’d go for a first name that doesn’t. My first and last name both start w/R. It makes me feel like a cartoon character–like [name]Richie[/name] [name]Rich[/name] or Mighty Mouse or [name]Ronald[/name] [name]Reagan[/name] (no offense to Reaganites). My parents were still teens when I was born…I’m not sure people under 20 should be permitted to name children (except for those thoughtful enough to be researching names on Nameberry!).

I love [name]Hazel[/name] [name]Monroe[/name]… we are thinking about using this combination if it’s a girl!

I love [name]Hazel[/name]! I recently let it go from my list–mainly because I just love too many names right now, not because anything’s wrong with [name]Hazel[/name]. Besides, I don’t feel like my list is terribly vintage–although I suppose it could be–and [name]Hazel[/name] almost felt like too much vintage next to [name]Isabelle[/name], [name]Arianne[/name], [name]Olivia[/name], [name]Violet[/name], [name]Rachel[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name], [name]Hannah[/name], etc. At the same time, I miss it–[name]Hazel[/name]'s so gorgeous! [name]How[/name] close to “hand” is your surname? Like, if it’s [name]Hazel[/name] Hands, or even [name]Hazel[/name] Hinds, I would probably reconsider. But [name]Hazel[/name] Hann? I think that’s fine. If it sounds the same as Hand, but is spelled different, like [name]Hazel[/name] Hande, that might be a no, as well. I think alliteration is fine, but if it is sounding cartoonish because it’s descriptive, then that’s when I would probably say no.

I like alliteration–my dad and all my siblings have it (FN/LN), not to mention my dad and aunt both had “J” names, and that aunt married a guy with a “J” name, and they had six "J"s. I’m surrounded by alliteration, and I think in certain cases it can really work (and it doesn’t have to start a pattern). I think something like [name]Hazel[/name] Hann would be adorable. But when it starts to sound like someone’s hand is colored hazel, that’s where it becomes cheesy and unusable, imo.

Good luck!
