I have a couple of questions about [name_f]Maple[/name_f]:
What do you think of [name_f]Maple[/name_f]? For me it’s a beautiful, magical nature name that reminds me of everything I love about fall, and it makes me think of a quiet, bookish, mysterious person. But whenever I mention the name to someone else they always describe it as “cute”. Now I don’t have a problem with cute, I love cute/adorable things, but I don’t want to use a name that’s “just cute”. I want a name with depth and magic! Does [name_f]Maple[/name_f] give you that impression?
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you see the name [name_f]Maple[/name_f] shooting up in popularity? According to the website I use, only about 72 people were given the name last year (in the u.s.), but that’s about 20 more than the year before that, and I know a lot of people are using more unusual names. I just wouldn’t want to use the name and then have it become really popular.
*sorry if you’re tired of hearing about this name; I know I’ve made a couple of threads about it already. This name’s been swimming around in my head for a couple of years now and I’m just trying to sort out my feelings for it.
**And this isn’t just for fun. I’m changing my name and thinking of possibly making this my new name.
I really like [name_f]Maple[/name_f] and it does feel like a name to me for it’s similarity to [name_f]Mabel[/name_f]. You can always shorten it to [name_f]Mae[/name_f] as a nickname which is just as lovely. I wouldn’t worry about popularity, means nothing, honestly! What is important is that you love your name. A few years ago my brother changed his name as he transitioned into being a woman and I think it’s an important decision and you really need to love your name. Best of luck!
I don’t know how I feel about it, honestly. On one hand, it is a cute name…there isn’t really any other way to describe it. However, there really isn’t any positive imagery that comes to mind when I hear it. I just can picture someone slowly drizzling maple syrup over a stack of buttered pancakes.
I don’t really think the name could get more popular. Sure, there’s a small collection of people who it appeals to, but I’d wager that the others are torn between hating it or just not thinking of it actually being usable. Then again, it could depend on location. I watch a Canadian woman on YouTube who does daily vlogs and baby name videos, and she mentioned liking the name but not being able to use it because she is Canadian…it’d be real overkill, like being from [name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u] and naming your daughter [name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u].
It matters more what you think of it. If you like it so much, then there is nothing anyone can say that would make you not like it.
Thanks! [name_f]Glad[/name_f] to hear that you like [name_f]Maple[/name_f]
I’m a big fan of word names and just more unusual names in general so I’m not really worried about anyone thinking that it’s not a “real name”. That really doesn’t bother me tbh. And I don’t think I’d want to shorten the name to [name_f]Mae[/name_f], or anything else, because I just really love [name_f]Maple[/name_f] and that’s what I’d want to be called! I wish I didn’t care as much sometimes but popularity is actually pretty important to me. My birth name’s very popular and I’ve always hated that so I’d like to avoid that with this new name.
I’m really trying to settle on a name that I love but I’m just so incredibly picky and indecisive so it’s been kind of a slow process. I’d like to finally have one picked out in under a month though.
Thanks! I really do love [name_f]Maple[/name_f] (it gives me nothing but positive imagery; maple trees, crunchy leaves, cold crisp air, dark overcast days, sweet maple syrup, just the whole fall season in general), but I guess I’m just trying the see if it’s “the one”.
[name_f]Maple[/name_f] sounds very sweet and is a much better alternative to [name_f]Mabel[/name_f]. I personally want to add the word “syrup” to it, because that pretty much the only context in which I hear it. That might be just a personal thing, though. I think it’s becoming more popular than it was, but it’s nowhere near chart-toppers, and I doubt your daughter would know many (if any) other Maples.
I like [name_f]Maple[/name_f]! I definetly prefer it to the similar [name_f]Mabel[/name_f]. While it is a cute name for a little girl, I think it can transition nicely to a beautiful, sophisticated name for a woman. I love that it’s unique without being “out there”. I don’t see it gaining huge popularity because it appeals to a smaller group of people that like word names. It will definitely never be another [name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] or [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]! [name_u]Love[/name_u] it!
I love [name_f]Maple[/name_f]! It seems very usable since it’s so similar to [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] but I don’t think it will shoot up in popularity. It may go up a little but I don’t see it as a top 10 name or anything.
I love the name [name_f]Maple[/name_f]! I’m a big fan of nature and word names. I also like that it has the nickname option of [name_f]Mae[/name_f]. I really don’t see it shooting up in popularity though. I think [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] is likely to become more popular.
I think [name_f]Maple[/name_f] would be a great name to choose for yourself
I like the image that the name invokes for you personally. However, in my case, I don’t get the same magical vibe. When I see or say [name_f]Maple[/name_f], I just think of the syrup, or perhaps the Canadian maple leaf - neither of which are bad but, they are distinctly less wondrous when compared to your own impressions of it. And while I don’t think it’s a terrible name by any means, I will say that I find it to be extremely cutesy, in a sort of sticky-sweet way (pardon the pun). Not only that but, as it is a word that has only recently started to garner interest as a name, it doesn’t have any legitimate depth, history or meaning, all of which I think are important as, when they are absent, what is left is a name that is modern (I prefer obscure traditional choices), potentially trendy and not really distinctive. Again, I don’t think it’s a bad name, and I wouldn’t object to you or anyone else using it, but [name_f]Maple[/name_f] doesn’t appeal to my tastes when not in edible form.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you see the name [name_f]Maple[/name_f] shooting up in popularity?
Absolutely. [name_f]Maple[/name_f] resembles more popular or well-known classics like [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] and [name_f]Opal[/name_f], so its familiarity will certainly make it appealing to a wider audience. Not only that but, word names and floral names are extremely trendy at the moment when it comes to naming girls, and with people now bored of your average [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and wishing to move on from the now standard [name_f]Willow[/name_f], [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and the like, [name_f]Maple[/name_f] is pretty much the next best thing as it is right on trend but hasn’t yet been ‘discovered’, as it were. So, with that in mind, I don’t see how it could possibly avoid popularity.
I really like the name [name_f]Maple[/name_f]. It’s actually a contender for me as well, but rather probably in the middle name spot rather than a first name.
The associations I make with this name are all nearly fall related.
[name_f]Flower[/name_f]: Sunflower, and more particularly crisp leaves or barley.
Personality: Shy/book-type. A thinker. Educated. Someone who enjoys learning, but a more solitary lifestyle.
I could potentially see the name rising due to people becoming more risky. It also has good potential for nicknames, like [name_f]May[/name_f], so that may make it more appealing to people who would tend to not go on a limb regularly.
It’s definitely a name full of magic and wonder to me though, if you keep coming back to it- use it.
I’m still very conflicted. I love the name itself but I’m still not sure if it’s the right one for me. Half of me feels like it’s the one, but the other half is having some pretty serious doubts. I’m just going to take a break from [name_f]Maple[/name_f] and sort out my feelings for it while I explore a few other possibilities.
