Questions on two names.

[name]Hi[/name]. [name]Just[/name] want your opinions on these two.

First of all, what are your thoughts on Nevine? [name]How[/name] would you pronounce it? I know a girl with basically this name, only she spells hers with an -een ending instead of -ine, and to me the pronunciation is fairly obvious, but I want to make sure of that before adding it to our list. I like the Nevine spelling better (I guess I made it up), and pronounce it “nuh-VEEN,” identical to my friend’s name. I believe my friend’s name may also be made up, but [name]Naveen[/name] is an [name]Indian[/name] (Sanskrit) name (though my friend is Caucasian). As my husband and I are Caucasian as well, I don’t want a name that is associated with a cultural heritage that my child won’t have; no disrespect meant to any cultures, it just would feel strange to give my child an obviously [name]Indian[/name] name. Would you associate Nevine with a particular ethnicity?

Also, my husband and I like the name [name]Mazarine[/name], but we each like different pronunciations (which, according to the dictionary, are both correct). I like maz-uh-REEN (rhymes with “magazine”), and he likes MAZZ-uh-rin (sounds like [name]Madelyn[/name]). If you saw the name [name]Mazarine[/name] on a roster, how would you instinctively pronounce it?

Thanks!

I would pronounce both names like you do, if I were to see them in print… which I guess I just did.

I wouldn’t associate Nevine with any particular culture.

I read Nevine as [name]Nuh[/name]-veen. and [name]Mazarine[/name] like Magazine! I actually probably prefer the Maz-a-rinn prn but I’m not really sure.
