Yes I do, well [name]Gaius[/name] anyway, and since it’s the same name I guess I do. I know Caligula was a pretty bad seed (like a really really really bad seed), but I like [name]Augustus[/name], Tacitus and Gracchus, and [name]Julius[/name] [name]Caesar[/name] wasn’t all bad, he did some great things (besides I rather picture him as [name]Ciar[/name]án Hinds after I saw [name]Rome[/name]).
There’s a sculpture in [name]Soho[/name] of [name]Charles[/name] II made by [name]Caius[/name] Cibbler or something. First name definitely [name]Caius[/name], I remember I thought it was pretty cool.
I think it’s a great name. You can’t let one (or however many) bad dude destroy the name.
Thanks for the responses everyone!
[name]Glad[/name] to see most people don’t associate it to [name]Ceasar[/name]'s fam quite as strongly as I do.
@[name]Ottilie[/name]- Yeah, I agree I shouldn’t let a few bad seeds destroy a good name, but when it’s a couple of world leaders (even if ancient) it just seems to exacerbate the depth of the negative association, in my mind at least. Perhaps just something I have to get over.
SO I saw the title and thought, “[name]Caius[/name], how cool!” then I read the rest of your post and thought oh yeah! Which is really funny since I have degrees in history and archaeology and spent a great deal of time studying [name]Rome[/name], Latin and [name]Roman[/name] [name]Britain[/name]! Still, I only thought about how interesting it would be to meet a [name]Caius[/name].
I do see a connection with [name]Caius[/name] and the [name]Caesar[/name] family but I don’t think that fact overwhelms the name at all. For me, the association wouldn’t be strong enough to exclude it from contention. I think it’s a fine name.
