Quick Questions about Crushes. :)

I have been revamping my boys’ list, and have a couple of quick questions regarding a couple of boys’ names/combos, so I figured I’d post them on a quick thread all together.

  1. I’ve been massively crushing on the Portuguese name Agostinho–is it way too unusable in the US? It’s pronounced similar to ah-goost-CHEEN-yoh. Is [name_u]Auguste[/name_u] any more wearable? (And does the nn Auggie make Agostinho more palatable?)
  2. Also been loving [name_m]Desmond[/name_m] lately, and the only combo I have (so far) is [name_m]Desmond[/name_m] [name_m]Xavier[/name_m]. Does it feel really mismatched to you?
  3. Give me one perfect second MN for [name_u]Darby[/name_u] [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] _____.
  4. [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] [name_m]Pacificus[/name_m] [name_m]Eli[/name_m], [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] [name_m]Pacificus[/name_m] [name_m]Ezra[/name_m], or [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] [name_m]Pacificus[/name_m] [name_m]Jack[/name_m]?
  5. Thoughts on [name_m]Benoit[/name_m] [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] “[name_m]Ben[/name_m]”?
  6. [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_u]Harbor[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u], [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u] [name_u]Grey[/name_u], [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_m]Amaury[/name_m] [name_u]Grey[/name_u], or [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_m]Didier[/name_m] _____?
  7. [name_m]Seamus[/name_m] [name_m]Xavier[/name_m] or [name_m]Desmond[/name_m] [name_m]Xavier[/name_m]?
  8. [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_m]Elihu[/name_m], [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_u]Ellis[/name_u], or [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_u]Elias[/name_u]?
  9. Does [name_m]Ignatius[/name_m] outshine [name_u]Avery[/name_u] in [name_u]Avery[/name_u] [name_m]Ignatius[/name_m] [name_m]Jack[/name_m]?
  10. WDYT of [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_m]Matthias[/name_m]?

Thanks, Berries!

  1. Agostinho seems quite…out there haha. It isn’t terrible, just a pronunciation challenge haha
  2. [name_m]Desmond[/name_m] [name_m]Xavier[/name_m] sounds just fine
  3. [name_u]Darby[/name_u] [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u]
  4. [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] [name_m]Pacificus[/name_m] [name_m]Ezra[/name_m]
  5. I’ve heard alot about [name_m]Benoit[/name_m], and it is cute! But some reason in my head I can’t help but instinctively pronounce it as its spelled.
  6. [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_m]Amaury[/name_m] [name_u]Grey[/name_u]
  7. [name_m]Seamus[/name_m] [name_m]Xavier[/name_m]
  8. [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_u]Ellis[/name_u]
  9. A bit…though I don’t see it as too much of a problem unless you’ll be calling your child by their full name all the time.
  10. [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_m]Matthias[/name_m] is adorable

  1. Unfortunately, I would say Agostinho is unusable in the USA. But I am not American so I can’t be certain. [name_u]Auguste[/name_u] is definitely usable.
  2. Hm, a little bit. Not enough for me to notice it unless it’s brought up, though.
  3. [name_u]Darby[/name_u] [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] [name_m]George[/name_m].
  4. [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] [name_m]Pacificus[/name_m] [name_m]Eli[/name_m].
  5. I am not a fan of [name_m]Benoit[/name_m], but the flow is great and I adore [name_u]Emerson[/name_u].
  6. [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u] [name_u]Grey[/name_u]!
  7. [name_m]Seamus[/name_m] [name_m]Xavier[/name_m]. I love [name_m]Seamus[/name_m].
  8. [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_u]Elias[/name_u].
  9. Sort of, I think [name_u]Avery[/name_u] [name_m]Jack[/name_m] is a great combo and find [name_m]Ignatius[/name_m] to be the odd one out. I wouldn’t consider it a big deal though.
  10. [name_u]Love[/name_u]!
  1. I definitely think it’s a little too out there to use in the US. I personally don’t like any of the [name_u]August[/name_u]- names, but if I had to pick one, [name_u]Auguste[/name_u] or [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] would be my choice. I don’t think a nickname does anything to make an actual name more palatable - it’s still his actual name.
  2. I think it’s a great combo! Doesn’t seem mismatched at all.
  3. The first thing that comes to mind is [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]. Not sure why.
  4. I’m not a fan of [name_m]Pacificus[/name_m], but out of these options I like [name_m]Ezra[/name_m].
  5. I don’t really like [name_m]Benoit[/name_m], but I like [name_m]Ben[/name_m] and I think it flows well.
  6. I think [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_u]Harbor[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] flows the best.
  7. I slightly prefer [name_m]Desmond[/name_m], although neither are really my style.
  8. I like [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] the best.
  9. Depends on your definition of “outshine…” Is it much heavier and therefore sticks out more because it’s more unusual? Yes.
  10. I think it’s great.

1- Agostinho is my uncle’s name (he goes by Ago). But he doesn’t live in America. I don’t think it’s unusable but it would be “weird” if you don’t have any origin because Agostinho really really screams Spanish or Portuguese to my ears.
2 - Desmond Xavier is nice!
3 - Darby Daniel Alexander, Darby Daniel Eliander, Darby Daniel Deander, Darby Daniel Lysander
4 - Gabriel Pacificus Jack
5 - Benoit Emerson is awesome!
6 - My favorites are Sebastian Harbor James and Sebastian Zephyr Grey!
7 - Desmond Xavier
8 - Jack Sebastian Ellis (also like Elias)
9 - Not at all
10 - The combo is really nice, the names flow perfectly together, but I’m not a fan of Matthias.

Thanks for all your thoughts, Berries!

@mccharlie - thanks! I don’t have a familial link to Portugal (or a Portuguese-speaking country, like [name_u]Brazil[/name_u]), but [name_u]Brazil[/name_u] itself is a very meaningful place for me, and I’ll be going back next summer. I like the idea of honoring [name_u]Brazil[/name_u] in some of my combos. I thought of something like Augustino, but it sort of just pales in comparison to Agostinho to me. I love that -inho ending in Portuguese, and I love the “T” = “ch” construction with Brazilian accents.

Anyone else want to weigh in?
