Quick while my SO is still in on the naming obsession!!

So outta nowhereeeee, my boyfriend texts me saying “babe…I think I found a name I like for a boy…” I was so suprised he even thought of these things without me pestering him about different names.

The name was [name]Garrison[/name]. Now I don’t hate it, however, I do NOT like [name]Gary[/name] which is the nn he’d probably get. He said he liked that it was manly and had military ties (he’s in the navy), so I am trying to come up with other names that fit that style.
So far I suggested:
[name]Hudson[/name]
[name]Greyson[/name]
[name]Hunter[/name]
[name]Knox[/name]
[name]Scout[/name]
[name]Zachary[/name]
[name]Griffin[/name]
[name]Evan[/name]
[name]Sullivan[/name]

The only one he really said maybe to was [name]Evan[/name] :frowning: Help!?

[name]Garrison[/name] is nice. I have a cousin Jarrison, and I know it is not real, but I can’t help but like how that sounds.

I enjoy lots of names from you list.

Random suggestion, this is a link to the Library of Congress veterans list. It would be cute to look through this list with your boyfriend and see if you guys like any of the names. That way it has a military tie, and there are so many to look at from different times.

Someone else on the forums in considering [name]Gareth[/name]. I think that’s a good name to consider if he likes the [name]Gar[/name]- beginning. Or maybe he just likes the -on/-an endings. Maybe try some other names with this ending that you also like and see if he goes for any of those? (I’ve noticed my DH only suggests names with -on/-an endings…)

Well, you could do a pre-emptive strike and come up with your own nickname for [name]Garrison[/name] - [name]Ari[/name]? [name]Ron[/name]?

Or how about:
[name]Gunner[/name] (if he was Marines, you could use the nn Gunny!)
[name]Nelson[/name]
[name]Perry[/name]
[name]Everett[/name] (a naval air station I think)
[name]Sailor[/name] (girl?)

Thanks for the suggestions! We both like [name]Evan[/name] (I like [name]Evander[/name] but he won’t go for it)… another name on our list is [name]Jack[/name]. I can’t figure out his naming style at all. It’s like classic, strong names but he always has a weird association with them. He’s said no to [name]Neil[/name], [name]Paul[/name], [name]Leo[/name], [name]Theo[/name], [name]Alexander[/name], and pretty much any other name I suggest. Ughhh lucky we have a longgg time to go!

I actually went to high school with a [name]Garrison[/name] and no one ever called him [name]Gary[/name]. He went exclusively by his full name, so I wouldn’t cut [name]Garrison[/name] for that reason alone.

I like [name]Griffin[/name] nn [name]Fin[/name] a lot. You might consider [name]Dylan[/name] (for its meaning “son of the sea”), [name]Kai[/name] (Hawaiian, meaning “sea”), [name]Morgan[/name] (“sea”), [name]Ronan[/name] (“little seal” which connects to the sea and [name]Navy[/name] seals), [name]Calder[/name] (“rocky water”), or [name]Zale[/name] (“strength of the sea”).

There is a boy in my son’s ice hockey class named [name]Gannon[/name]. It kind of reminds me of [name]Garrison[/name]. Also I know another little boy bamed [name]Garrison[/name] [name]Henry[/name] whose nickname is [name]Hank[/name].

[name]How[/name] about Gratien ([name]GREY[/name]-shen)

Thank you so much for all the suggestions!
Some I’ve already tried and didn’t work like:
[name]Leon[/name]
[name]Walker[/name]
[name]Sullivan[/name]
[name]Griffin[/name]/[name]Griffith[/name]
[name]Knox[/name]

Some have family references that render them unusable:
[name]Remington[/name]
[name]Ethan[/name]
Rubicon (basically my last name)
[name]Samuel[/name]
[name]Tucker[/name]

Out of what’s left we like:
[name]Boone[/name]!
[name]Marshall[/name] (maybe)
[name]Carson[/name] (grandmother’s maiden name)
[name]Patton[/name] (I’m actually related to general [name]Patton[/name] closely! And it’s a way to honor my cousin [name]Patrick[/name])

I also really love the references to water because we both come from a small beach/tourist town and the water is central to everything, buttt I don’t really care for any of the boy water names :frowning:
