I am down to a month before DD4 is here. If some of you remember, I have three other girls, [name]Gemma[/name], [name]Zara[/name], & [name]Isla[/name]. My husband said “What about [name]Quinna[/name]” (Kwen-uh, not [name]Keen[/name]-uh), and I told him I needed to hold out on my opinion until I thought about it more.
So, do you think [name]Quinna[/name] is a name?? I am sort of liking it, but don’t want to use a non-name or something people are going to think we made up…
And if you think it is viable, can you give me a good one syllable MN for it???
[name]Hi[/name]! I love your daughters’ names! I’m pretty sure that [name]Quinna[/name] is a real name. Hmm…I know for sure that [name]Aquinnah[/name] is real (it’s a town on [name]Martha[/name]'s Vineyard).
(I pronounce [name]Quinna[/name] is Kwin-na, though, and am guessing I may not be alone.)
[name]Quinna[/name] [name]Blythe[/name]
[name]Quinna[/name] [name]Maeve[/name]
[name]Quinna[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] (then again, [name]Quinna[/name] P. reminds me of the Quinnipiac [name]Poll[/name])
I think it sounds like a real name, although it was not on a site that I just looked at. Why not just [name]Quinn[/name]? Although [name]Quinna[/name] definetly makes it feminine, where [name]Quinn[/name]/[name]Quin[/name] can be unisex. I think even if it is somewhat made up people would still know how to pronounce it and spell it.
I like your other daughters names! I like the names [name]Zara[/name] and [name]Zera[/name], how do people respond to your daughter named [name]Zara[/name]? [name]Do[/name] people say WHAT? HUH? when you tell them her name? [name]How[/name] do you pronounce it? I would say it like [name]Sara[/name] but with a Z. Thanks!
We prefer the Euro sound for [name]Zara[/name], pronounced like “Czar-uh”, like [name]Zara[/name] [name]Phillips[/name] the royal cousin, and if I am feeling spunky, I sometimes even roll the R in it, like “Zaw’d-uh”, lol. However, we have found that lots of Northeasterners and Jewish automatically say it as “[name]Zair[/name]-uh”.
And we have to keep the femme -a at the end of our sibset so that our #4 isn’t the only one without the “trend” that we inadvertently trapped ourselves in, lol.
I would pronounce it Kwin-uh, not Kwen-uh, so f you’re looking for the Kwen-uh pronunciation, I would change the spelling to [name]Quenna[/name]. that might just open up a whole 'nother can of worms though…
I don’t know whether or not [name]Quinna[/name] is a real name, but I love it. I like it [name]WAY[/name] more than just [name]Quinn[/name], and obviously it works with her sisters name when [name]Quinn[/name] wouldn’t. I’d also pronounce it Kwin-a, not Kwen-a.
No, [name]Quinna[/name] is not a name. The name [name]Quinn[/name] comes from a surname, so there’s no way a girl’s variation could be derived from it. I love your daughter’s names, but I don’t think a madeup, trendy sounding name goes with them.
I’m certainly in the minority, but I absolutely do not like the name [name]Quinn[/name] for either a boy or a girl. [name]Quinna[/name], however, is lovely! I liked it so much right off the bat that I didn’t even associate the name [name]Quinn[/name] with it!
As for pronunciation, I would have said it “Kwin-ah”.
It might not be a name but I would have thought it was - I mean to say that I wouldn’t look at [name]Gemma[/name], [name]Zara[/name], [name]Isla[/name] and [name]Quinna[/name] and say gee, why did they make up [name]Quinna[/name]? That being said, I do think it sounds a little forced, like maybe you love the name [name]Quinn[/name] but don’t want DD4 to stick out. A name that must end in ‘a’ might work a little better rather than a name where the root is also a name.
If you’re interested in suggestions, how about:
[name]Lucia[/name] (I say it loo-sha)
[name]Luna[/name]
[name]Lana[/name]
[name]Thea[/name]
[name]Nina[/name]
[name]Rosa[/name]
[name]Lyra[/name]
[name]Ada[/name]
[name]Ava[/name]
[name]Eva[/name]
[name]Raya[/name]/[name]Rhea[/name]
I actually really like the name, I think it’s cute. And it fits with the current [name]Quin[/name] trend without sounding cliche.
Now for some middle names:
[name]Quinna[/name] [name]Mae[/name] (my favorite)
[name]Quinna[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
[name]Quinna[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Quinna[/name] [name]Maeve[/name]
I know I’m really late to this discussion, but [name]Quinna[/name] is definitely a name–it was my great-grandmother’s! She pronounced it Kwin-na.
I was looking it up on nameberry to see if there were any meanings, and couldn’t help chiming in.
