Hiya!
I’ve been liking [name_f]Mar[/name_f]ía lately for a baby girl. Our family is from Spain and the US. I’d love a middle/double barrel first name that screams American so that on her resumé her bicultural background really shines. Ideas??? I was loving [name_f]Mar[/name_f]ía [name_f]Luna[/name_f], but it feels 100% Spanish unfortunately.
The thing is, modern [name_u]America[/name_u] is a relatively new nation with a relatively new culture so it doesn’t have a very distinct/recognisable group of names as of yet (we can slowly see this developing though, look at [name_m]Kaedyn[/name_m] and [name_f]Nevaeh[/name_f], which we may think are made up now but in a couple of hundred years they’ll have a strong history). The closest you could get is with Native American names but I assume that’s not what you’re after?
Some that shout [name_f]Americana[/name_f] to me are those which are either very ‘‘southern’’, very old-Hollywood or very American-Italian. So;
[name_f]Luella[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Ella[/name_f]
Maebry
[name_f]Lillian[/name_f]
[name_f]Maybelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Frances[/name_f]
[name_f]Nina[/name_f]
[name_f]Liberty[/name_f]
[name_f]Chastity[/name_f]
[name_f]Twila[/name_f]
[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f]
[name_u]Simone[/name_u]
[name_f]Jessamy[/name_f]
[name_u]Carmen[/name_u]
[name_f]Julia[/name_f]
[name_f]Gianna[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f]
[name_f]Claire[/name_f]
[name_f]Faye[/name_f]
[name_f]Twila[/name_f]
[name_f]Ellen[/name_f]
[name_f]Lily[/name_f]
What about:
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Abigail[/name_f]
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]

[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_u]Alexis[/name_u]
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_u]Taylor[/name_u]
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Faith[/name_f]
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Jade[/name_f]
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f]
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Maisy[/name_f]
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Ashlyn[/name_f]
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Cadence[/name_f]
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_u]Cassidy[/name_u]
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Danielle[/name_f]
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Emily[/name_f]
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Zoe[/name_f]
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f]
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_u]Peyton[/name_u]
Good luck!
[name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Anne[/name_f]
[name_u]Lynn[/name_u]
[name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] / [name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Delia[/name_f]
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Julia[/name_f] / [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Georgia[/name_f]
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Susannah[/name_f]
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Bryony[/name_f]
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] / [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] / [name_f]Lucille[/name_f]
I think if you pair [name_f]Maria[/name_f] with a common “American” name (one in common usage in [name_u]America[/name_u] now) that it keeps the double-barrelled [name_f]Maria[/name_f] ____ from sounding too unusual. But also, unusual names are becoming more in style for girls especially. I really like [name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Luna[/name_f]! I can appreciate that you want to honor all parts of her heritage with a name that reflects her past and her future. It’s my opinion that [name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Luna[/name_f] doesn’t sound overly Spanish. I understand your concerns, though. Good luck!
For the juxtaposition, what about:
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Beth[/name_f]
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Brittany[/name_f]
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Darlene[/name_f]
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f]
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_u]Kimberly[/name_u]
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_u]Lou[/name_u]
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Nancy[/name_f]
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Natalie[/name_f]
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Roxanne[/name_f]
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f]
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Sally[/name_f]
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Susan[/name_f]
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Zoe[/name_f]
Yes, this. Plus [name_u]Jean[/name_u], [name_u]Joan[/name_u] and [name_f]Sue[/name_f].
I think [name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] is pretty and very American. It’s an unusual combo so it sorta spices up the plain side of [name_u]Lynn[/name_u].
[name_f]Mar[/name_f]ía [name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Mar[/name_f]ía [name_f]Mae[/name_f]

[name_f]Mar[/name_f]ía [name_u]Leigh[/name_u]
[name_f]Mar[/name_f]ía [name_f]Belle[/name_f]
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps!
Thanks ladies! Im going to comb through all these suggestions!
I just wish there was an option that was a bit spunkier and not so classic but still anglosaxon sounding. I like the spunk of [name_f]Luna[/name_f] and love its relation to the night sky. The idea of [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] is brushing thay line.
