Nameberry’s British Names for Girls list is lovely but I’ve seen some names on birth announcements, like [name]Ottilie[/name], that are not on there, but have that feel. I know a girl from [name]London[/name] named [name]Maeve[/name], even though that’s Irish. Names like [name]Daphne[/name] and [name]Cordelia[/name], [name]Clementine[/name] and [name]Allegra[/name]. [name]Do[/name] you know of any that are not on that list, but in your opinion should be?
I know of a family in [name]England[/name] whose children are named [name]Edward[/name], [name]Hermione[/name], [name]Elizabeth[/name] and [name]Juno[/name]. A mix of classic and classical!
For boys I like [name]James[/name], [name]Lionel[/name], [name]Hugo[/name], [name]Peregrine[/name], [name]William[/name] and [name]Lysander[/name].
I don’t know how many I can contribute since I have never been to this area nor do I have friends who are British, but I can tell you I love the ones on your list and will be checking back for ideas.
Excellent glad you might find this helpful! ([name]Maeve[/name] is my only British friend, the family is the offspring of a [name]Duke[/name] or something).
[name]Maeve[/name] sounds like it could be British to me along with [name]Daphne[/name] and definitely [name]Cordelia[/name]. I would also say [name]Bryony[/name] because it’s always seemed british to me so do all the boys names you have listed except [name]Lionel[/name] and [name]Hugo[/name] which could be either or for me. However I have a hard time imagining british [name]Ottilie[/name], [name]Clementine[/name] and [name]Allegra[/name]'s. Id be interested to hear what the names sound like with that accent!
[name]One[/name] of my friends from middle school was born in [name]England[/name] and they moved to the US when she was young. The kids were [name]Charlotte[/name] (went by [name]Charlie[/name]), [name]Scott[/name] and [name]Francesca[/name] (went by [name]Frankie[/name]). I’d consider [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Francesca[/name] to be sort of “English” names. [name]Scott[/name] I’m not sure about.
Quintessentially British Names. Also known as the names of the upper classes. I like some of them and I’m certainly not upper class, so maybe it’s a question of taste. But most of these aren’t popular, but I suppose ‘British’ names are a style now.
Though I will be naming my boy child [name]Benedict[/name]. I don’t care that I already know a little [name]Benedict[/name], or that it can be easily turned into ‘Bendy dick’. No idea how the other names will work though.
