[name_m]Hi[/name_m] all,
We are at a bit of a loss and wanted some friendly suggestions for names that we might not have considered for our baby girl (due February). We are both artists living in [name_m]Wales[/name_m], my partner has mostly English and Welsh ancestry while I have [name_m]French[/name_m] and Danish only a generation back. We have some rough choices in mind and just wanted a few more suggestions really before we decide.
Front-runners at the moment are,
[name_f]Anais[/name_f]
[name_f]Edith[/name_f] (perhaps [name_f]Edith[/name_f] [name_f]Anais[/name_f]?)
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f] ([name_f]Gwendoline[/name_f]?)
[name_u]Avery[/name_u]
[name_f]Ada[/name_f] (my G Grandmother’s middle name)
[name_f]Ava[/name_f]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]/[name_f]Mathilde[/name_f]
We seem to like [name_m]French[/name_m], English, Welsh and Scandinavian names, usually fairly quirky. We were quite set on [name_f]Edith[/name_f] [name_f]Anais[/name_f] but lots of our friends kind of grimaced at the suggestion of [name_f]Edith[/name_f] and we don’t know about [name_f]Anais[/name_f] as a forename as we don’t like the shortening “[name_f]Anna[/name_f]” or “[name_f]Annie[/name_f]”. Any opinions or suggestions hugely appreciated!
I should also mention my surname is long, double barrelled and [name_m]French[/name_m] (Bt-F*l), which will probably affect the forename choices somewhat?
I can totally see the spunk in your name choices.
Suggestions:
[name_f]Aimee[/name_f], [name_f]Thea[/name_f], [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], [name_f]Adele[/name_f], [name_f]Aline[/name_f], [name_f]Avril[/name_f] (Too [name_f]Avril[/name_f] Levine?), [name_f]Emilie[/name_f], [name_f]Eulalie[/name_f], [name_f]Fleur[/name_f], [name_f]Gigi[/name_f], [name_f]Inez[/name_f]/[name_f]Ines[/name_f], [name_f]Magali[/name_f], [name_f]Odette[/name_f], Aina/Aino (prn: IE-nah/ IE-noh), [name_f]Anna[/name_f], [name_f]Eira[/name_f], [name_f]Hella[/name_f], [name_f]Inga[/name_f], [name_f]Selma[/name_f], [name_f]Thora[/name_f], Urusla, [name_f]Vera[/name_f], [name_f]Vita[/name_f], [name_f]Eluned[/name_f], [name_f]Enid[/name_f], [name_f]Alis[/name_f], [name_f]Mairwen[/name_f], or [name_u]Tegan[/name_u]. (Apparently I think of shorter names when I think quirky).
I really like [name_f]Edith[/name_f] and [name_f]Anais[/name_f] just not together the combo comes across as a bit eek-y. It’s too heavy on the E, [name_m]Ah[/name_m] sounds. Sorry I don’t know how better to describe that. lol.
Thank you, great suggestions. I really like [name_f]Ines[/name_f], [name_f]Alis[/name_f], [name_f]Eira[/name_f] and [name_f]Enid[/name_f]. We thought about [name_f]Odette[/name_f] for a while but not sure about it and don’t like the shortened [name_m]Odie[/name_m] as it was our pet cat’s name (died not so long ago).
I love [name_f]Ada[/name_f], [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f], and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] from your list! Sorry to say, I agree with the [name_f]Edith[/name_f] grimaces. It is a nameberry favorite, but I think it is dreadful. [name_f]Ada[/name_f] is my top pick for you.
Thanks, [name_f]Ada[/name_f] is definitely up there as it was the middle name of a very fondly remembered family member. I like [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] with a -y a lot…
I really like [name_f]Edith[/name_f] [name_f]Ana[/name_f]ïs, both [name_f]Edith[/name_f] and [name_f]Ana[/name_f]ïs are beautiful names and they sound great together (though I think the names should be pronounced in [name_m]French[/name_m] to give the combination the best flow). I adore [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]/[name_f]Mathilde[/name_f]. [name_f]Ada[/name_f]/[name_f]Ava[/name_f] [name_f]Mathilde[/name_f] or [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Ana[/name_f]ïs would sound terrific.
