Simply do you love it, like it, or hate it?
I like it.
When I think of this name, I have a mental struggle with the [name]Ralph[/name] vs. [name]Rafe[/name] spelling, but I like it.
Like it… Maybe? I am not sure. I always thought it was a nickname for [name]Raphael[/name] which I hate (can we say Ninja Turtles?). But when I read up on it it is [name]German[/name]/Germanic and means [name]Council[/name] of the [name]Wolf[/name]. Well, that I love! My son’s middle name is [name]Wolf[/name] and his first name is [name]German[/name] so I tend to lean towards that style of name. Interesting.
Like it …prefer this spelling . I think a lot depends on the mn an dsn combos though.
I love [name]Rafe[/name] but I prefer it spelled [name]Ralph[/name]. However, in that situation, I flip-flop between the ralf pronunciation and the rayf pronunciation. It’s a complicated relationship.
[name]Love[/name] it (spelled [name]Rafe[/name]) and have seriously considered using it, but I’ve had too much negative feedback from others for it to really be a top contender…
I like it spelt [name]Ralph[/name].
[name]Love[/name] it, especially as a nn for [name]Raphael[/name]/[name]Rafael[/name]
Dislike
Sorry, but it has a bit of a pretentious vibe for me.
I like it, but I am the mother of a [name]Rafferty[/name] - which we shorten to [name]Raff[/name], not [name]Rafe[/name] - so I am slightly biased.
It does look a little like a “modern” spelling though? Not sure how you feel about not following the classic spelling of names…
I thought [name]Rafe[/name] was a nn for [name]Rafael[/name]/[name]Raphael[/name] (which I love!), pr. Rayfe. I thought [name]Ralph[/name] was completely different. Pronounced, well, [name]Ralf[/name]. [name]Don[/name]'t see where you get the [name]Ralph[/name] pronunciation from [name]Rafe[/name], where’s the L? [name]Love[/name] [name]Rafe[/name] as a nn for [name]Rafael[/name]/[name]Raphael[/name] and love [name]Ralph[/name], but not [name]Rafe[/name] as a full name or pr. [name]Ralph[/name].
@gensen-- in the UK, and perhaps a bit in Australia, [name]Ralph[/name] is pronounced [name]Rafe[/name]. It’s considered a snooty name there, with a very ‘landed gentry’ vibe.
I absolutely [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Rafe[/name]. For awhile there I was convinced I’d use it if I had another boy. And since I’m starting over for my boy names I"ll probably be taking another look at it!
I like [name]Rafe[/name], but with the awkwardness over pronunciation etc would probably choose against it. Plus I prefer [name]Rafferty[/name]! Which as others have mentioned could give you [name]Rafe[/name] as a nn option.
