[name]Just[/name] ran across an adult female named [name]Harlow[/name], she works with the public. Hearing the name screams name change to my ears. I have a hard time believing this is her given name, since its all of the sudden newly used (many would say trendy) these past few years. My thinking is, if you change your name and your an adult, change it to a non-trendy new name, otherwise its a complete red flag and you end up looking like your trying to hard to be cool. In other words if you want an obscure name among your own peers, pick an obsure name. Period. The other way to look at this, is her parents were doing what many on nameberry try and do, pick an obsure name, one that isnt used among her peers, however now look, its trendy for babies and now she stands out like a soar thumb, leaving people to wonder if she changed her name. What do you guys think, does it scream name change to you?
I don’t know, I can see it happening. There is a radio drama that’s been on the air since before I was born, and there was a [name]Harlow[/name] in it several decades ago. Of course, the [name]Harlow[/name] was a boy, but I can still see it happening.
I had a similar experience last fall, though–there was a plaque in the science building of my university with the highest honors students or something, and there was a [name]Willow[/name] on it… I honestly didn’t know [name]Willow[/name] was actually considered a name until I heard it from the Palins, so I was a bit surprised to see there was a [name]Willow[/name] my age or possibly even older… Still, I guess it could happen. It honestly didn’t even cross my mind that she could have changed her name to something that’s fairly trendy right now.
Maybe she did but her parents could have been ahead of the trend. I know an Irish family who had a son named [name]Aidan[/name] who was born in the early 70’s. I was friends with his younger brother [name]Owen[/name] Anyway I bet his parents wouldn’t have expected all the [name]Aidan[/name]/[name]Aiden[/name]/[name]Aaden[/name]/[name]Ayden[/name]/[name]Aden[/name]/[name]Braiden[/name]/[name]Cayden[/name]'s/etc that you see today when they were naming him.
I can definitely see it being her given name. Had my brother been a girl it was a toss up between [name]Harlow[/name] and [name]Antonia[/name]. My grandpa suggested [name]Harlow[/name] because of [name]Jean[/name] [name]Harlow[/name], but he hated [name]Jean[/name] so he though [name]Harlow[/name] was the next best thing. He ended up being a boy and they never got used, but he were a girl, he could have been an adult [name]Harlow[/name]. So I really would not think that she changed it.
