The [name_f]English[/name_f] (or at least American) pronunciation is LIE-nus, but I know some European countries pronounce it LEE-nus.
I donāt mind those pronounciations but they donāt work well with [name_f]Evanthe[/name_f] and I donāt feel strongly about changing the pronounciation to fit a girl.
Iāve been considering [name_m]Linux[/name_m] but it doesnāt appear to be a name (Iām pretty sure itās computer related too). Iāve heard that pronounced as LIN-uhx
Yes, itās an operating system! (Like Windows or MacOS). Itās actually named after a [name_m]Linus[/name_m] (who is Scandinavian and says his name as LEE-nus), but Iāve heard [name_m]Linux[/name_m] pronounced different in different languages, just like the name.
To get to a name with the LIN-uhx pronunciation Iād come in from [name_m]Lennox[/name_m] rather than [name_m]Linus[/name_m] though and spell it maybe [name_f]Lynnox[/name_f].
[name_f]Lynnox[/name_f] is fairly cute.
Does anyone ever do the thing where they learn someoneās name and then start trying to guess their middle name?
I do this ALL. THE. TIME. I do it based on last names, first names, siblingsā names, parentsā names, personalities, hobbies, literally whatever I know about them.
For example, I know an [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. She has a sister named [name_f]Jane[/name_f] and a brother named [name_m]William[/name_m]. I am currently of the belief that Janeās middle name is [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] or [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], and Williamās middle name is [name_m]James[/name_m] or [name_m]George[/name_m]. Idk why.
In college, there was a girl, that I knew from social media her name was spelled [name_f]Camille[/name_f], but my friends who knew her called her (roughly) ākuh-MEEā. Eventually I met her and became friends with her, and I always thought we were saying [name_f]Cami[/name_f], short for [name_f]Camille[/name_f] with a L soundā¦ but then one day she explained that, no, her family is [name_m]French[/name_m] so thereās no L sound. And thatās how I discovered [name_f]Camille[/name_f] has more than one pronunciation.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] yāall ever see names that have completely different vibes from their actual meanings? Iāll use a combo of mine as an example:
[name_m]Timothy[/name_m] [name_m]Lewis[/name_m]
ārenowned warrior for Godās honorā
[name_f]Pretty[/name_f] sure my partner had his first major namenerd moment today: He sighed and was like āI really hope I still like the name when we eventually do have kids because I really love it so muchā
(The name in question is [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] (for a boy), and the whole thing was really sweet because I feel the same all the time!!)
Iāve been wondering if one could get away with essentially naming their kids and and or. Like only replacing that syllable in on name to get to the other.
[name_m]Alexander[/name_m] & Alexorer
[name_m]Ferdinand[/name_m] & Ferdinor
[name_m]Andrew[/name_m] & Ordrew
[name_m]Dorian[/name_m] & Dandian
[name_m]Orson[/name_m] & Andson
[name_f]Andie[/name_f] & [name_m]Orie[/name_m]
[name_f]Sandra[/name_f] & Sorra
[name_f]Nora[/name_f] & [name_f]Nanda[/name_f]
I am laughing, but I love this. This to me is the epitome of what this topic is titled
Side note, I wasnāt sure if I would axe Ferdinor so quicklyā¦.
my sisterās name + my name means [name_m]Christmas[/name_m] [name_f]Morning[/name_f] (Natasha + Aurora) and I think itās pretty cute
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f], one of my favorite names, apparently means blessed peacemaking[name_f][/name_f] and how have I never looked it up until now??
I feel like Alexorer fails because of the repeating ending sound. Alexorra (Alexandra), Aleksor (Aleksandr), and Alejorro (Alejandro) seem to show more promise. Of those I think Alejandro & Alejorro works the best, but is still questionable.

[name_m]Just[/name_m] wanted to say that a while ago my best friend randomly started using [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] as a nn for me and I just think thatās so cute
A lot of names have a lot of different associations but I have to say, of all the Imogens Iāve met, Iāve never met one who hasnāt been a total sweetheart
I had a dream recently where I had a daughter named [name_f]Ishtar[/name_f][name_f][/name_f] ā which is a name Iāve never heard before, but apparently is a Mesopotamian goddess!
