[name_m]Hi[/name_m]!
So, many people go by their middle name. But I’m wondering about names that that would work for, and whether that’s a good idea. For example, I like the names [name_u]Wren[/name_u] and [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] together. But [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u] sounds better than [name_u]Wren[/name_u] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] to me. However, I love the name [name_u]Wren[/name_u], and would rather call a girl that. So she would turn into one of the people called by their middle name. But that’s not what I’m asking your opinion on. What are some names (first name middle name) that you would name someone, where you actually prefer the middle name and would call the girl by her middle name? I’m just curious to see if there are any patterns to this.
Thanks!
Sorry, couldn’t help myself I LOVE [name_u]Wren[/name_u] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]! Beautiful.
I can see people doing this with “out there” names that they really loved, but were afraid wouldn’t age too well or suit all walks of life. By pairing them with a more traditional name up front, you give them plenty of options.
Perhaps…
[name_f]Susannah[/name_f] [name_u]Hero[/name_u]
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Honey[/name_f]
[name_f]Paloma[/name_f] [name_f]Sunday[/name_f]
[name_f]Helena[/name_f] [name_u]Vesper[/name_u]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f]
[name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Birdie[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] [name_u]Fable[/name_u]
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] [name_u]Coco[/name_u]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_u]Calypso[/name_u]
etc.
I don’t have an “out there” name example, but my Granny went by her middle name her entire life. Her mail read L. Jëännë, and everyone knew her by Jëännë. It was to the point that her pastor of 40+ years found out Jëännë wasn’t her first name when he was preparing for her memorial service after her death. He expressed his (still present) shock during the service… three months after her death (we had military members and students and had to plan accordingly).
Personally, I love Wren Juliet and Juliet Wren equally. Good luck in deciding.
As for other combos that would fit the pattern, I’ll have to get back to you on that. I’ve suddenly drawn a blank as I’m typing.
Okay, here’s my thought on this. It is actually quite common where I live to go by your middle name! I know two families who did this with all of their kids (well, one of them only did it for boys). They don’t seem to have much of a problem with it, since they always use their mn except for on legal documents. I would personally only do it for a nickname (my top boy name is [name_m]Wesley[/name_m] [name_m]Christopher[/name_m], but I would occasionally call him [name_u]Kit[/name_u] as a pet name of sorts). But I honestly don’t think it would cause the kid any major issues. I would sooner call a baby by their mn than give them two mns.
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps!
[name_f]My[/name_f] OH’s nanny went by her middle name for most of her life. [name_f]My[/name_f] nana went by another nickname completely. I think it was much more common in that generation and I don’t see it should be an issue now either. Your daughter would just have to inform people of her preferred name when she started new schools or workplaces etc. People are usually accommodating though.
Thank you! Any more ideas for other names where you would actually call the person by the middle name?
I was in a similar position with my first daughter. We named her [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u] and call her [name_u]Wren[/name_u]. There is something really wonderful about the name [name_u]Wren[/name_u] I think. I wanted her to have the option of using the slightly more unique [name_u]Wren[/name_u] or traditional [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] when she is older. Only advice is be prepared for the slightly longer explanation when people ask her name.
I think its very common. [name_f]My[/name_f] grandmother went by her middle name. So does my Aunt, a nephew, and my husband. I think my husband will be calling our future daughter by her first middle name [name_f]Autumn[/name_f], but I will be calling her by her first name (we can’t agree on names this time…lol). I think it would be perfectly fine to name her [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u], but call her [name_u]Wren[/name_u]. I agree that [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u] sounds better.
