Random unusual names.

These have all been added to my long list recently, about half were mentioned by my husband. Due to naming rules, I probably would never seriously consider half these but they’re fun to have on the list anyways.

What do you think of these individually, not as a sibling to [name]Henry[/name] and [name]Julia[/name]?

[name]Aditya[/name]
[name]Akira[/name]
[name]Alois[/name]
[name]Althea[/name]
[name]Agni[/name] (nickname for [name]Agnes[/name]?)
[name]Chaya[/name]
[name]Cleo[/name]
[name]Devi[/name]
Epona
Fiachra
[name]Gaia[/name]
[name]Heidi[/name]
[name]Hyacinth[/name]
[name]Isha[/name]
[name]Ismene[/name]

[name]Aditya[/name] - unless someone has an [name]Indian[/name] or Hindu heritage, I wouldn’t use it.
[name]Akira[/name] - this is more of a Japanese male name for me. I think it’s great - for a boy! It means “intelligent”.
[name]Alois[/name] - I like this name but there would be pronunciation issues. I prefer [name]Aloysius[/name] but this name comes with the same problem. This is a [name]German[/name] BOYS name.
[name]Althea[/name] - this is pretty in an upper-class British aristocratic sort of way.
[name]Agni[/name] (nickname for [name]Agnes[/name]?) - [name]Just[/name] as a nn for a fuller name (Swedish Agnetha)
[name]Chaya[/name] - A Hebrew name popular with Jewish families.I prefer the Chaia spelling due to an unreasonable aversion to y’s.
[name]Cleo[/name] - I prefer The Greek mythological spelling of [name]Clio[/name] to [name]Cleo[/name] (short for [name]Cleopatra[/name]?). Unfortunately both spelleings are brand names. In Europe, a [name]Renault[/name] car is called [name]Clio[/name] and in [name]Canada[/name], [name]Cleo[/name] is a ladies clothing store.
[name]Devi[/name] - See [name]Aditya[/name]
Epona - Makes me think of horses and My [name]Little[/name] Pony.
Fiachra - This is an Irish [name]MALE[/name] saint name. Spelling and pronunciation may cause issues if you live outside of [name]Ireland[/name].
[name]Gaia[/name] - I like it but would people mispronounce it as “gay-uh”?
[name]Heidi[/name] - too cutesy for my comfort level
[name]Hyacinth[/name] - A great mn but as a first name all I see is snobby Mrs. Bucket on the Britcom “Keeping Up Appearances”
[name]Isha[/name] - sounds like a whisper
[name]Ismene[/name] - This is pretty and unusual.

[name]Aditya[/name] – Extremely popular, strictly male name for Hindus. It’s lovely (when pronounced correctly), but also a very religious name - most of the gods in our pantheon are classified as Adityas and more narrowly it refers to the male sun god (most traditional Hindu names have multiple layers of meaning)
[name]Akira[/name] – To me, it is very masculine. I don’t know if that’s a concern of yours though?
[name]Alois[/name] – Same as above
[name]Althea[/name] – Pretty (although I have negative personal associations w/it)
[name]Agni[/name] (nickname for [name]Agnes[/name]?) – I don’t know if you referring to the [name]Indian[/name] name “[name]Agni[/name]”, but if you are, it’s pronounced “Ugh-nee”, and doesn’t sound at all like [name]Agnes[/name]. It’s also the name of the male god of fire.
[name]Chaya[/name] – I like it. I like legitimate"y"s in names - my own name has a ‘y’ in it
[name]Cleo[/name] – NMS
[name]Devi[/name] – I find it boring and out-dated. It’s the [name]Indian[/name] version of [name]Marie[/name]. Practically every girl/woman born 1960 - 2000 has this as her middle name.
Epona – cute
Fiachra
[name]Gaia[/name] – I like it
[name]Heidi[/name] – Very cute
[name]Hyacinth[/name] – same as [name]Mischa[/name]
[name]Isha[/name] – [name]Isha[/name] & Eesha are both pretty names. Currently very popular for [name]Indian[/name]-Americans, I think because they’re both easy to pronounce. I don’t know if you looked up the name elsewhere, because Nameberry’s description is not correct. The root of the name is “Ish” which is “god” in Sanskrit.
[name]Ismene[/name] – I like the sound of it, but teasing potential (Is-many), and personally, not a fan of the character

[name]How[/name] weird! I went to middle school with boys named [name]Aditya[/name] and [name]Akira[/name]. They were best friends

I had a serious thing for Fiachra before I realized it was a man’s name. Boo…
[name]Hyacinth[/name] is awesome, I’ve been considering it as a middle.
I also like [name]Ismene[/name] (you might like [name]Ismay[/name] too), [name]Gaia[/name], Epona, and [name]Cleo[/name].
