Last night 2 friends from high school, [name]Danielle[/name] and [name]Chris[/name], welcomed a new baby boy, [name]Randy[/name]. It also happens to be my dad’s name, and I always thought it was a little old fashioned. I love that it’s a name you don’t see much anymore, but do you think it has too much teasing potential? Or is this another name going to the girls?
Definitely not a fan. It could have some teasing down the road.
I don’t see any teasing, just old fashioned.
The thing that a lot of people forget with teasing is that young kids don’t know what names are “normal” and what aren’t. My best friend in first grade had a boy’s name but I didn’t even know it until much later.
My favorite uncle is named [name]Randy[/name] ([name]Randall[/name]), and I went to school with a girl named [name]Randee[/name].
Honestly, I think the only teasing that they would encounter would be if they went over to [name]England[/name], where “randy” means “horny”.
“randy” means “horny”.
I was thinking this. I think in [name]America[/name], you have the [name]Austin[/name] [name]Powers[/name] thing right, and thats used in that movie a lot. I think it might be an issue, but maybe not too much.
My dad’s name is [name]Randall[/name] and he goes by [name]Randy[/name]. We gave my son the middle name of [name]Randall[/name]. I do agree that the name is old-fashioned and seldom heard these days. I recently found out that when my father worked internationally, he would introduce himself as [name]Randall[/name], as he was embarrassed to say, hi, I’m [name]Randy[/name], because of that connotation in other parts of the world. Overall I am partial to the name though, as it’s my dad’s name! I wouldn’t personally use it as a first name for my son though.
Well, we do have [name]Austin[/name] [name]Powers[/name] over here, but honestly, using “randy” in place of “horny” isn’t really part of our everyday vernacular here (at least not that I’ve seen).
