Rank these please!

My 2 latest posts in this forum have been super helpful in sorting my favourite girls’ names and favourite combinations. I’ve pretty much settled on the middle name [name]Catherine[/name] (though [name]Kathryn[/name] is still a contender), and I think I’ve also sorted out a top 7 (which is an awesome feat, I’m quite indecisive). Now, I’m not pregnant or TTC yet (waiting a while longer), but I love knowing peoples’ impressions of my favourites.

SO: Could you rank my favourite combinations? Or give me your impressions of them (if you’re not sick of me yet!)?

[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Norah[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Cordelia[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Felicity[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Vera[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Meredith[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Elisabeth[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]

Also, if you’d like, I’d love to know what a great sister name would be for your favourite of my above combinations (using names from my signature…my other favourites not used above are [name]Stella[/name], [name]Maggie[/name] and [name]Calla[/name] and the the most likely middle names are [name]Elise[/name], [name]Elaine[/name]/[name]Elaina[/name], [name]Claire[/name], [name]Ada[/name]/[name]Adelaide[/name]). But I’d love any other fn ideas you have, based on my tastes.

If it helps, my favourite boys’ combinations are [name]Callum[/name] [name]Robert[/name] and [name]Declan[/name] [name]James[/name].

You Berries rock! You’ve all been so helpful and brilliant.

[name]Favorite[/name] to least favorite:

[name]Vera[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] - Gorgeous.
[name]Meredith[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] - [name]Love[/name] it!
[name]Norah[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] - Great flow, though I prefer [name]Nora[/name].
[name]Felicity[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] - [name]Lovely[/name], even though a bit long.
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] - Nice.
[name]Elisabeth[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] - I prefer [name]Elizabeth[/name].
[name]Cordelia[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] - Not a fan of aliteration.

Other names I think go well with these names / names I think you might like:

[name]Stella[/name]
[name]Lilia[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Adelaide[/name]
[name]Vivienne[/name] / [name]Vivian[/name]
[name]Juliet[/name] / [name]Julia[/name]
[name]Lucia[/name] / [name]Lucy[/name]
[name]Genevieve[/name]
[name]Colette[/name]
[name]Phoebe[/name]
[name]Daphne[/name]
[name]Gwendolyn[/name]
[name]Eliza[/name]
[name]Anne[/name] / [name]Anna[/name]
[name]Magnolia[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Diana[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name] / [name]Beatrix[/name]
[name]Evangeline[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name]
[name]Rebecca[/name]

I’m going to rank them best to last for their overall sound and look so they’re not necessarily my order of preference.

1 [name]Vera[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]
2 [name]Norah[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] (although I think [name]Nora[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] looks better)
3 [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]
4 [name]Felicity[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]
5 [name]Elisabeth[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]
6 [name]Meredith[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]
7 [name]Cordelia[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]

[name]Stella[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] would be lovely combo too. With [name]Calla[/name] and [name]Stella[/name], [name]Vera[/name] and [name]Norah[/name] would be good “matches”.
With [name]Maggie[/name], [name]Nola[/name] and [name]Norah[/name] would be my picks.

My top three from your list are: [name]Eleanor[/name], [name]Norah[/name], and [name]Cordelia[/name].

[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]- I will love the name [name]Eleanor[/name] until the end of time; I also think [name]Catherine[/name] goes exceptionally well with it. This name is sophisticated, clean, and oh so lovely. Top contender.

[name]Norah[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]- usually, I prefer [name]Norah[/name] to be spelled [name]Nora[/name], but in this case I like it the way you have it. I think it’s very classy, elegant, and the h adds some spunk to it. I would rate this a 9.

[name]Cordelia[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]- I’ve never been a big fan of the overly-sweet, clunky [name]Cordelia[/name] but I think [name]Cordelia[/name] and [name]Catherine[/name] work together quite nicely in this. Also, I like the two Cs together (she could go by Cece!). Overall, I would rate this a solid 8.

These are all wonderful names and I wish you the absolute best. Lastly, I think you should stay with the [name]Catherine[/name] spelling. In relation to [name]Kathryn[/name], it just looks more polished and pleasing to the eye. That’s all I’ve got. Have a good day c:

I ranked by number, 1 being favorite and 7 least favorite

[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] - 5
[name]Norah[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] - 6
[name]Cordelia[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] - 4
[name]Felicity[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] - 1
[name]Vera[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] - 7
[name]Meredith[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] - 2
[name]Elisabeth[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] - 3

I love love love [name]Vera[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]!
I also like the rhythm of [name]Norah[/name] [name]Catherine[/name].
With [name]Catherine[/name] having 3 syllables I think some of these names are a touch long.

That said, [name]Felicity[/name] and [name]Elisabeth[/name] work pretty well, I think for having 4 syllables so you get 4-3 rhythm.
And I love [name]Felicity[/name] and [name]Elisabeth[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] is so classic!
The only one I don’t much care for is [name]Cordelia[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] - I find [name]Cordelia[/name] a touch over the top anyway (but very charming), and then with another long C name in the middle it’s just too much for me. But that is strictly taste, I don’t think there’s anything “wrong” with it per se.

[name]Sister[/name] pairs I can see
[name]Vera[/name] and [name]Felicity[/name] (for the longest time I had this as a FN/MN combo…but my husband doesn’t care for [name]Vera[/name], maybe he’l come around!)
[name]Norah[/name] and [name]Meredith[/name]
[name]Vera[/name] and [name]Eleanor[/name]
[name]Norah[/name] and [name]Elisabeth[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] and [name]Cordelia[/name]
[name]Felicity[/name] and [name]Meredith[/name]

Good luck!

  1. [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]- beautiful, classic combination.
  2. [name]Vera[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]- [name]Vera[/name] is a pretty, timeless name that’s not overused.
  3. [name]Meredith[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]- really pretty.
  4. [name]Elisabeth[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]- I like the S spelling better than the Z. To me it’s softer and more approachable.
  5. [name]Cordelia[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]- pretty, and I like the flow of it.
  6. [name]Norah[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]- not a huge fan of [name]Norah[/name], but it flows nicely.
  7. [name]Felicity[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]- it’s just okay. I just don’t find anything really special about it.

My top 3:

[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] - I love this. [name]Eleanor[/name] is a very beautiful name.
[name]Vera[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] - [name]Vera[/name] is super cute! I really like this combination.
[name]Meredith[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] - I love this! So beautiful.

…and the rest…

[name]Norah[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] - i would’ve liked this better if it was [name]Nora[/name] without the h. But still pretty and sounds elegant.
[name]Elisabeth[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] - Like it, but not crazy about it.
[name]Felicity[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] - I love the name [name]Felicity[/name], I’m just not sure about the combination.
[name]Cordelia[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] - I don’t like the name [name]Cordelia[/name]. It makes me think of [name]King[/name] Lear and while I love the play, I really dislike the [name]Cordelia[/name] character.

[ol][/ol]

[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]- my favorite. Clean, classic, and beautiful.
[name]Norah[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]- love the sweetness of this one.
[name]Elisabeth[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]- beautiful, but perhaps too regal.
[name]Felicity[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]- love the spunkiness of [name]Felicity[/name] with [name]Catherine[/name].
[name]Meredith[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]- pretty!

Not a fan of [name]Vera[/name] or [name]Cordelia[/name]. Nms.

[name]Norah[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Cordelia[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Vera[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Meredith[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Elisabeth[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] - It’s a lovely name, but if my college class is any indication, there are so many Elizabeths these days, they’ll be able to fill a whole floor at the dorm when they get to college.
[name]Felicity[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] - the tv show is still popping to mind

[name]Norah[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] is my favorite, as you may know! I love her with [name]Callum[/name] and [name]Declan[/name]! (And I love the ‘h,’ by the way.)
[name]How[/name] about [name]Maeve[/name] [name]Cordelia[/name], [name]Elisabeth[/name] [name]Claire[/name], [name]Fiona[/name] [name]Elise[/name], or [name]Clara[/name] [name]Adelaide[/name] for her sister?

[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]- [name]Love[/name] this.
[name]Norah[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]- I like [name]Nora[/name] without the H. Otherwise, I love this too.
[name]Cordelia[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]- Not a fan of alliteration, but I still like it.
[name]Felicity[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]- [name]Felicity[/name] isn’t a favorite of mine, but it goes well with [name]Catherine[/name].
[name]Vera[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]- [name]Love[/name] the way you have it pronounced. Vair-uh [name]Catherine[/name] is stunning.
[name]Meredith[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]- Not a fan of [name]Meredith[/name] (I’ve watched too much Greys Anatomy)
[name]Elisabeth[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]- I actually prefer this spelling. I like this a lot, though together it’s a tad too classic-traditional for my taste.

  • [name]Athena[/name]

My favorite’s [name]Felicity[/name]! I don’t care for [name]Catherine[/name] or like any of the others sorry. I like [name]Stella[/name] and [name]Elise[/name] though

[name]Vera[/name] and [name]Cordelia[/name] are probably my favorite first names, and I must say that [name]Vera[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] has much better flow, although I prefer the name [name]Cordelia[/name]. I also love [name]Calla[/name] and [name]Stella[/name]. I think [name]Calla[/name] [name]Elise[/name] is gorgeous. However, I love [name]Callum[/name] [name]Robert[/name] and that would obviously negate [name]Calla[/name] [name]Elise[/name], sadly. Sorry I’m rambling! But to rank them, I’d probably go:

[name]Vera[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Cordelia[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Meredith[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Elisabeth[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Felicity[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Norah[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]

I much prefer [name]Catherine[/name] to [name]Kathryn[/name].

PS- if you can’t do [name]Calla[/name] [name]Elise[/name] as a sibling to [name]Vera[/name] [name]Catherine[/name], I’d say [name]Stella[/name] [name]Elisabeth[/name]!

Thank-you so much to everyone who has responded! Such helpful comments.

Seems like there’s no clear favourite…though people seem to either [name]LOVE[/name] or HATE [name]Vera[/name], [name]Cordelia[/name] and [name]Felicity[/name]. I’m noticing that the others are either generally liked, or loved.

@ consultantmeghan - thanks for the suggestions! I really liked [name]Juliet[/name] and [name]Eliza[/name]. [name]Beatrice[/name] sounds awful with the ln, otherwise it would have definitely appeared in my list. I love [name]Beatrice[/name]. [name]Magnolia[/name] is a GP of mine, I’d never be bold enough to go for it (though I love [name]Maggie[/name]).

@ mischa - thanks for the matches. I really like [name]Vera[/name] and [name]Norah[/name] together especially, and am really starting to think about [name]Stella[/name] [name]Catherine[/name].

@ jesba - thanks for the sister-name match-ups! [name]Vera[/name] and [name]Eleanor[/name] was my favourite of the bunch, second place going to [name]Norah[/name] and [name]Meredith[/name].

@ ottilie - I think [name]Eleanor[/name], [name]Vera[/name] and [name]Meredith[/name] (along with [name]Norah[/name]) might just be my favourites at the moment. I think that they’re the ones I’d most likely use [name]IRL[/name]. Thanks for your comments.

@ econo - I agree, there ARE a lot of Elizabeths out there. I’ve been considering using it (with the “s” spelling, which I much prefer) as a possible middle name for another girl…it’s so similar to my own mn. Hmmm…

@ kyemsma - thanks for some more [name]Norah[/name]-love! I really like it with [name]Callum[/name] and [name]Declan[/name] too…I get a melty feeling when I picture the sibset, they seem to go together so well! Also, thanks for the new combinations, I really love [name]Fiona[/name] [name]Elise[/name]! I’ll have to give that more thought.

@ aj_bear - it’s great to see another [name]Vera[/name] (Vair-uh) fan…and another [name]Eleanor[/name] fan! I’ve been thinking about this [name]Nora[/name] vs [name]Norah[/name] thing…a lot of people have been saying to ditch the ‘h’. I’ll have to think about this. I [name]DO[/name] like how short and sweet [name]Nora[/name] is.

@ leonielee - I really love [name]Calla[/name], but I think I love [name]Callum[/name] more. Such a debate in my head! Maybe I’ll save [name]Calla[/name]/[name]Callum[/name] for a second child, and that’ll settle the debate (I plan to only have 2). [name]Vera[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] and [name]Stella[/name] [name]Elisabeth[/name] are gorgeous sister-names! Thank-you!

Thanks again everyone! So many thoughtful comments…I’d love to hear more!

I like them all, but these are my three favorites:

[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] - saw this combo on another site a few days ago… I just love it! It’s so classic but so sweet and feminine, and I love the nn versatility (especially with the nn [name]Ella[/name] [name]Kate[/name]!).

[name]Elisabeth[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] - even more classic than [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Catherine[/name], but just as beautiful! I love the nn potential here, too.

[name]Felicity[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] - [name]Felicity[/name]'s so quirky and sweet and cheerful. I would love to meet one.

[name]Cordelia[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] would be my fourth choice–I love [name]Cordelia[/name] (and the nn [name]Cora[/name]) a lot, but I’m not sure about the alliteration here. I think [name]Cordelia[/name] would fit really well with [name]Felicity[/name]/[name]Eleanor[/name]/[name]Vera[/name]/etc., I would just pair it with a different MN.

Good luck!

@ ashthedreamer - thanks for your input! [name]Eleanor[/name] has always been a love of mine. Such a perfect, timeless choice. Always seems to get lots of love here on NB, so I’m hoping that it doesn’t get TOO popular [name]IRL[/name]. And I would love to meet a [name]Felicity[/name] too! I’d be so interested to see how a name like that is received.

  1. [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] - Such a solid, pretty name.
  2. [name]Norah[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] - As some other PPs stated, I prefer [name]Nora[/name].
  3. [name]Cordelia[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] - I love the alliteration with these two.
  4. [name]Elisabeth[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] - Classic
  5. [name]Vera[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] - [name]Vera[/name] is a decent name to me, but for the most part NMS.
  6. [name]Felicity[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] - NMS
  7. [name]Meredith[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] - NMS
