My great-grandfathers name was [name_m]Ransom[/name_m]. There are 11 men in my family tree named [name_m]Ransom[/name_m]. Only 1 is still living, but it was apparently very popular, especially in the 1800s. It holds a special place in my heart, because of the family legacy, but would you use it? I’m pretty sure I would.
I wouldn’t use it but I think it’s usable. I’ve heard of it before, in a historical fiction book that took place during the revolutionary war. [name_u]Love[/name_u] that it’s a family name.
I think it’s usable as a middle name, but it’s too connected to the connotations of the word ransom for me to like it as a first name.
I think it’s usable, yes.
For me personally there are just too many religious connotations to use it.
Anyhow, it’s actually a really lovely name imo. And I love that it’s a family name!
I think it is only usable as a middle name. The family connection is sweet, but I think it has too much baggage as a first (ransom= ransom note or demanding a ransom). I can only speak for myself, but I wouldn’t really appreciate or enjoy having that name
I personally think its a horrible thing to name a child (along with [name_m]Gunner[/name_m], [name_m]Danger[/name_m], [name_m]Dagger[/name_m] etc.) However, If it has meaning to you, I think it could work in the middle name spot.
I understand the original usage of this name wasn’t as a word name (its meaning as a name is “son of [name_m]Rand[/name_m]”) but, unfortunately, I think that ransom is too negative a namesake, even as a middle name, even if it is a family name for you, due to its meaning as a word. To each their own, but I, personally, would feel uncomfortable having this name, and would not bestow it onto another person
Personally no. At least not as a first name as it has a very negative vibe to it due to the crime association.
I think it could work as a really distinctive middle name.
I know a [name_m]Ransom[/name_m]. I think it’s nice
I think it’s usable. The first thing that comes to my mind are its religious connotations (for me a plus), followed by an image of the Old [name_u]West[/name_u]. You could use the nicknames [name_m]Rand[/name_m], Rans, or [name_u]Remy[/name_u].
