Thoughts and opinions? What kind of person is Ransom? Aesthetic? My husband’s great grandfather’s name was Ransom and his dad’s name is Randall.
Edit: Thanks for the honest responses. It’s a mixed bag which I expected. I’ll probably save it for a possible MN. Thanks again!
Sorry, but I just think of holding someone for ransom
Aside from that it has a cool sound and would be an interesting way to get to the nn Sam!

[name_m]Ransom[/name_m] isn’t my style but I think it’s usable, especially with the familial connections!

i think ransom is beautiful
i love the spiritual connection, and it gives me a very laidback, cottagecore vibe.

It’s not my style and I wouldn’t personally use it, it does invoke the “held for ransom” image in my head as well, BUT I don’t think it’s unusable because [name_m]Ransom[/name_m] [name_m]Riggs[/name_m] pulls it off well.

I’ve liked [name_m]Ransom[/name_m] since I watched Knives Out. The holding someone for [name_m]Ransom[/name_m] vibe is strong though and [name_m]Ransom[/name_m] from the movie isn’t the best name sake (but it’s [name_u]Chris[/name_u] [name_m]Evans[/name_m] )

First time I ever heard this name was when I watched Knives Out the other week but I think it’s kinda cool. I mean I suppose it has some negative connotations like stealing or a bad person. But I do think it’s a cool name.

I can’t say that I like it, it feels very violent and menacing to me. As another poster said, I can only think of holding someone for ransom.

I love the vibe of [name_m]Ransom[/name_m], but not the name in reality, unfortunately. The vibe of [name_m]Ransom[/name_m] gives me rugged, laidback, cottagecore kind of vibes, but my real association with it is “holding someone for ransom…” I am aware of the religious meaning behind it, though, and I know someone personally who used it for that reason. So, if that’s something that you love (or even if not), I think it is a useable name, I’m just unfortunately not in love with it myself.

I think it’s fine for somebody else’s baby.
I appreciate the religious meaning, but the word “ransom” in a secular context doesn’t have good connotations, which is a bit of a damper. But the name does have a handsome sound and rugged image, so I can understand the appeal.

I don’t think it really works in this day and age with so much true crime

I agree with @Greyblue that it feels very rugged, charming, and outdoorsy. I personally really like it but I also love names like [name_u]Jett[/name_u], [name_f]Lively[/name_f], and [name_u]Meridian[/name_u] so maybe take my opinion with a grain of salt. I think since it’s a family name it makes it even more usable and easy to explain to anybody who may have a weird reaction to it

This is my husbands guilty pleasure name. We’re currently expecting and trying to find some name we like. I tried moving this to a shortlist because he liked it but he vetoed it saying in theory he likes it but can’t help shake the negative connotations the name has.
