Whats the consensus on [name_m]Canaan[/name_m]? [name_m]Ive[/name_m] lobed it for years and i think a baby girl/ woman named [name_m]Canaan[/name_m] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] or [name_m]Canaan[/name_m] [name_f]Mercy[/name_f] is jist beautiful. [name_u]Love[/name_u] the Old Testament vibe but wondering if it is too bold
I feel biblical names you can get away with them being different bc there’s usually a deep meaning behind the name. I say go for it! Personally like [name_m]Canaan[/name_m] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] more but since [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is getting popular go with [name_f]Mercy[/name_f]!
I think [name_m]Canaan[/name_m] definitely works as a name. I would vote for [name_m]Canaan[/name_m] [name_f]Rose[/name_f].
I like it on a boy (though biblical names often seem to cross gender boundaries) mainly because of the sound. But I think it could work on a girl — has similar sound and emphasis to [name_u]Cameron[/name_u] or [name_u]Reagan[/name_u]. It is a bold choice, but it’s rising in popularity for boys in the U.S., which may make the the name (and pronunciation) more familiar.
I like [name_m]Canaan[/name_m] alot. As the pp said, I would have thought of it as a boys name (nn [name_m]Cane[/name_m]) but I do think it would work on a girl. I love [name_m]Canaan[/name_m] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] or [name_m]Canaan[/name_m] [name_f]Mercy[/name_f], both are delightful options.
I’d assume a [name_m]Canaan[/name_m] were a boy since it’s in the top 1000 for boys and he’s [name_m]Ham[/name_m]'s son in the Bible. I’m not really a fan of it for a girl at all. From your options I see [name_m]Canaan[/name_m] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] as being the better choice.
A fun, similar sounding name that came to mind is [name_f]Canna[/name_f], like a canna lily. It came into use during the Victorian era along with many other flower names that were popular at the time.
Not a fan of it on a girl.
[name_m]Canaan[/name_m] is our first pick for a boy, but I think it could work for a girl with a really feminine middle
I really, really dislike it on a girl. That being said, if I had to chose from your options, [name_m]Canaan[/name_m] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] would get my pick.
I, too, feel that [name_m]Canaan[/name_m] works better on a boy (maybe due to its similarity to [name_u]Kieran[/name_u] and [name_m]Kenan[/name_m]?), but I think it’s also the similarity to [name_m]Cane[/name_m] that has been mentioned, and also the fact that I know of several guys (including a semi-prominent country singer with the name–[name_m]Canaan[/name_m] [name_m]Smith[/name_m]. I would offer up the option of Cana–said similarly ([name_u]KAY[/name_u]-nah)–another Biblical place name which I’ve heard given to girls. I would love to see Cana [name_f]Mercy[/name_f], personally, but of your options, I like [name_m]Canaan[/name_m] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] the best.
Good luck!
I’ve only heard it used on boys, so to me using it for a girl would be akin to naming a girl [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] or [name_u]James[/name_u]–which is to say, entirely possible, but not something I personally would do. However, I do think it has a sound/style in common with several crossover/unisex names commonly used for girls, so I would not be too surprised to meet a female [name_m]Canaan[/name_m].
Sounds great! Go for it!
I’ve never thought of using it for a girl, but paired with a sweet middle name, it works for me.
It’s a place name, so technically, it’s unisex. Upon first glance I’d think it were a boy, but I think it could work on a girl with a feminine middle name.
I would vote for [name_m]Canaan[/name_m] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. I also like [name_m]Canaan[/name_m] [name_f]Maria[/name_f], [name_m]Canaan[/name_m] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], and [name_m]Canaan[/name_m] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f].
I think [name_m]Canaan[/name_m] [name_f]Mercy[/name_f] works well. I usually tend to dislike anything non-traditional in the names world, but this is pretty.
