Rate my baby boy names - Luca or Leandro / “Leo”?

Please help, we are torn between Luca (too popular?) or Leandro ( nickname “Leo”) for our son. I love both Luca and Leo, but am worried about him constantly spelling / pronouncing Leandro… so perhaps Luca is better but it does seem to be very popular at the moment and don’t want something that is too trendy and will date… help!

I like [name_u]Luca[/name_u] better!

I’m not entirely sure how to say [name_m]Leandro[/name_m] so I think you will definitely have to pronounce and spell it for people which I wouldn’t like. [name_u]Luca[/name_u] is a pretty well known name and wouldn’t have the same pronunciation issues.

I personally prefer [name_u]Luca[/name_u]!

Oh I love [name_m]Leandro[/name_m] and the more familiar [name_u]Leo[/name_u] would work really well as a nn. I’d instinctively say [name_m]Leandro[/name_m] - Lee-ANN-droh. I think it’s gorgeous

I do really like [name_u]Luca[/name_u] too and as you say, it would perhaps be the easier option in terms of spelling / pronunciation

Good luck deciding!

[name_m]Leandro[/name_m] is so handsome!!

Both are so handsome, but I’ve always loved Leandro! I think that would be the more exciting choice :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.

I love the name [name_u]Luca[/name_u], so that gets my vote based on which name I prefer. It’s kind of mysterious but sweet & simple too. I really don’t think that I’ve ever met one, but it does seem to be rising the charts a bit. If you’re worried about popularity, I hear little [name_m]Leos[/name_m] a ton. It feels way more popular in my area at least. None of them are named [name_m]Leandro[/name_m], I’m sure. I do know a baby [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] though! I think that [name_m]Leandro[/name_m] will get mistaken for [name_m]Leonardo[/name_m]. Because I read it like that at first. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_m]Lorenzo[/name_m]? I think that [name_m]Lorenzo[/name_m] nn [name_u]Leo[/name_u] (or Enzo!) is really cool & feels up your alley.

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] my rambling helps.

I love the name [name_u]Leo[/name_u] and think it’s great as a stand alone name, same as [name_f]Mae[/name_f], but with the choice between [name_m]Leandro[/name_m] and [name_u]Luca[/name_u], I’d pick [name_u]Luca[/name_u]!

i love Leandro “Leo”! Luca is also really handsome

i think Leandro is pretty easy to pronounce but it is probable that you’ll have some people mispronouncing his name

also i think both Leo & Luca are pretty popular

here are some other ideas:
Leondre “Leo”
Leon “Leo”
Leonid “Leo”
Leonidas “Leo”
Leopold “Leo”
Leonardo “Leo”
Lionel “Leo” or “Lio”
Leomaris “Leo”
Leonel “Leo”
Leomar “Leo”
Leoric “Leo”

there’s also a italian name that combines both Leo & Luca: Leoluca

I love [name_u]Luca[/name_u], that gets my vote!

I like [name_u]Luca[/name_u] better but is probably because I don’t know if I am pronouncing [name_m]Leandro[/name_m] correctly or not

Thank you! [name_f]Do[/name_f] you mind sharing where you are based? It’s helpful to hear that you don’t know any [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] but [name_u]Leo[/name_u] is very popular. No worries if you prefer not to! We are in [name_f]Florida[/name_f] so curious on popularity there.

I have an unusual name and have always hated spelling it etc, but I know some people love their unique names. It’s so hard to know if you are giving your child the gift of a unique name to help them stand out or a burden of constantly spelling it! I suppose it depends on their personality…

Sure. I’m in St. [name_m]Louis[/name_m]. [name_f]Live[/name_f] near a bunch of hipster families.

Thank you! That’s encouraging that you haven’t heard it from the hipster crew lol!

Anyone based in [name_f]Florida[/name_f] know any l’il Luca’s?

First, congratulations on your little boy!

I’m not from [name_f]Florida[/name_f] or the States, so I can’t tell you how these names would be perceived there unfortunately. I live in [name_f]Canada[/name_f], and here, both [name_u]Luca[/name_u] and [name_u]Leo[/name_u] are well known without being too popular. I like both names! I have a slight personal preference for [name_u]Luca[/name_u], but [name_m]Leandro[/name_m] (NN Leo) is good too. I think the spelling of [name_m]Leandro[/name_m] is straightforward and it shouldn’t stop you from using it.

[name_f]My[/name_f] advice is to go for the name you like the most. I understand your concerns about popularity for [name_u]Luca[/name_u] and practicality for [name_m]Leandro[/name_m]. I had the same ones for my baby boy that is due in a couple of days. His dad and I finally settled on our favorite name when we stopped thinking about these concerns and just looked at the names. What helped us the most was to imagine what it would feel like calling his name out loud. [name_f]Hope[/name_f] you find the right fit

[name_u]Luca[/name_u] is a great choice, but [name_m]Leandro[/name_m] is so cool so I “vote” for that one!
