Rate My Top 10! (girls)

Hiya berries~
I’m in the process of choosing a name to legally change to, and this is my top-ten list at the moment:

[name]Athena[/name]
[name]Ariadne[/name]
[name]Valentina[/name] nn [name]Lena[/name]
[name]Helena[/name] nn [name]Lena[/name]
[name]Astrid[/name]
[name]Nathalie[/name]
[name]Natalie[/name]
[name]Rowena[/name] nn Roo
[name]Clara[/name] nn [name]Clary[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] nn [name]Nora[/name].

If you would be so kind to rate them and/or explain your reasoning, I’d be very grateful. [name]TIA[/name]

EDIT: Whoops, I am a fail. Namelist has been set to public!

I know this list!

My ranking:

Based on what I like:
[name]Valentina[/name]
[name]Natalie[/name]
[name]Ariadne[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name]
[name]Helena[/name]
[name]Athena[/name]
[name]Clara[/name]
[name]Rowena[/name]
[name]Nathalie[/name]
[name]Astrid[/name]

But based on what I know of you:
[name]Athena[/name]
[name]Helena[/name]
[name]Nathalie[/name]
[name]Rowena[/name]
[name]Astrid[/name]
[name]Ariadne[/name]
[name]Clara[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name]
[name]Valentina[/name]
[name]Natalie[/name]

[name]Clara[/name]- my grandmother’s name and one of my favorites
[name]Rowena[/name]- strictly for the nn Roo, I adore it!
[name]Eleanor[/name]- love it and the nn [name]Nora[/name]. [name]Eleanor[/name] is one of those great E names with a ton of nn potential.
[name]Astrid[/name]- spunky and modern with a vintage feel.

The rest are NMS, but still good options.

[name]Astrid[/name] is my absolute fave - I wanted to name my daughter this (but hubby didn’t agree) her nn would have been [name]Didi[/name]. [name]LOVE[/name] it.
[name]Clara[/name] nn [name]Clary[/name] - Another one of my faves. Pronounced Clahra not [name]Claira[/name]; I thought [name]Ari[/name] as a nn if this pn
[name]Eleanor[/name] nn [name]Nora[/name]
[name]Nathalie[/name]
[name]Natalie[/name] (much prefer other spelling though)

Others below in order but NMS
[name]Valentina[/name] nn [name]Lena[/name]
[name]Rowena[/name] nn Roo
[name]Helena[/name] nn [name]Lena[/name]
[name]Athena[/name]
[name]Ariadne[/name]

[name]LOVE[/name]:

[name]Athena[/name]
[name]Ariadne[/name]
[name]Helena[/name] nn [name]Lena[/name]
[name]Astrid[/name]
[name]Rowena[/name] nn Roo
[name]Eleanor[/name] nn [name]Nora[/name].

NMS:
[name]Valentina[/name] nn [name]Lena[/name], but I do like [name]Lena[/name]!!
[name]Nathalie[/name]
[name]Natalie[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] nn [name]Clary[/name]

~[name]Jasmine[/name]

Absolutley love [name]Ariadne[/name], [name]Valentina[/name], [name]Helena[/name], [name]Clara[/name], [name]Eleanor[/name].

[name]Helena[/name] nn [name]Lena[/name] - it’s pretty, and I find, the easiest to carry of your choices
[name]Athena[/name] - Strong, nice name, I just don’t think it’s Pretty
[name]Ariadne[/name] - Sounds nice, But always reminds me of all the spider words - arachne, aranae arachnid.
[name]Valentina[/name] nn [name]Lena[/name] - seems a bit to exotic to carry everyday
[name]Natalie[/name] - Seems a bit tame to me, much prefer this spelling though
[name]Rowena[/name] nn Roo - she’ll get lost in the sea of unisex Rowans.
[name]Clara[/name] nn [name]Clary[/name] - NMS, [name]Don[/name]'t understand why you would call clara, clary - nicknames are supposed to be shorter versions
[name]Eleanor[/name] nn [name]Nora[/name]. - Dislike [name]Eleanor[/name], it’s a not nice old lady name. [name]Nora[/name] on it’s own is nice
[name]Astrid[/name] - just reminds me of astride
[name]Nathalie[/name]

[name]Athena[/name]- very pretty and sweet and elegant. I really like the possible nn of [name]Thea[/name], as well.
[name]Ariadne[/name]- I like this one. It’s like a less common version of [name]Arianna[/name].
[name]Valentina[/name]- this is all right. Not horrible but I don’t love it.
[name]Helena[/name]- this is very old-fashioned to me. [name]Lena[/name] is nice though.
[name]Astrid[/name]- I don’t mind this. It’s a name you don’t hear a lot of, which I like. But I prefer the sound of [name]Ingrid[/name].
[name]Nathalie[/name]- it’s a very strong name that I like a lot.
[name]Natalie[/name]- I prefer this spelling to [name]Nathalie[/name].
[name]Rowena[/name]- Roo is cute but I don’t like the full name.
[name]Clara[/name]- nice. I much prefer this to plain old [name]Claire[/name].
[name]Eleanor[/name]- classic and pretty. I prefer nn [name]Ellie[/name] though.

[name]Clara[/name] nn [name]Clary[/name] - very pretty
[name]Helena[/name] nn [name]Lena[/name] - very nice
[name]Athena[/name] - I like it, unique but not too weird
[name]Eleanor[/name] nn [name]Nora[/name] - okay
[name]Astrid[/name] - okay
[name]Rowena[/name] nn Roo - not bad
[name]Natalie[/name] - meh
[name]Nathalie[/name] - even more meh
[name]Valentina[/name] nn [name]Lena[/name] - I don’t like it.
[name]Ariadne[/name] - too out there for me

[name]Eleanor[/name] - love it, lots of nn options, classic, mmmm - it’s in my top 3!
[name]Ariadne[/name]/[name]Astrid[/name] - interesting but not too girly.
[name]Helena[/name]/[name]Clara[/name] - classic simplicity, though not sure how you’d say [name]Clary[/name], it’s quite different from the pronunciation of [name]Clara[/name] that I know.

The others I find tough to rank:
[name]Athena[/name] - the name of a chain of card shops in UK, can’t think of it objectively!
[name]Valentina[/name] nn [name]Lena[/name] - not keen on V, it’s quite fussy, and the nn is a bit of a stretch (for me)
[name]Nathalie[/name]/[name]Natalie[/name] - boring in comparison with your others! Would prefer the simpler spelling though.
[name]Rowena[/name] nn Roo - a lovely idea, but [name]Rowena[/name] isn’t very attractive and although Roo is a cute nn, I have a thing about deliberately choosing a name for its nickname - I like them to evolve naturally. If you want to change your name to Roo, go for it!

[name]Hope[/name] this doesn’t sound too mean! I am fascinated by the idea of someone changing their name - would love to know why.

I like [name]Athena[/name], [name]Clara[/name], and [name]Rowena[/name] the most. [name]Valentina[/name], [name]Helena[/name], [name]Astrid[/name] and [name]Nathalie[/name]/[name]Natalie[/name] are also nice. I’m not too fond of [name]Eleanor[/name] and [name]Ariadne[/name].

Thank you, everyone, for your awesome opinions! They helped me knock a few names off the list

@erinlw: I love your idea of [name]Athena[/name] nn [name]Thea[/name]! Thanks :slight_smile:

@bob=kate: Nah, don’t worry, I wasn’t offended at all. I’m changing my name because I cringe anytime I hear it aloud or introduce myself.

Thanks again!

Question: if you are pronouncing [name]Valentina[/name] val-en-tee-na, are you pronouncing [name]Lena[/name] lee-na or lay-na? Why not spell it [name]Lina[/name]? Because you have [name]Helena[/name] nn [name]Lena[/name] on your list, and I pronounce both with the lay-na sound.

I like [name]Ariadne[/name], [name]Clara[/name], [name]Rowena[/name] and [name]Natalie[/name].

@cristinamariane: I actually pronounce [name]Lena[/name] as [name]Len[/name]-uh, like [name]Lenny[/name], and [name]Helena[/name] as Hel-en-uh. I could be wrong, though. Thanks for your input!
