[name_m]Alistair[/name_m] - 8/10, a really handsome Scottish name Douglas - 7/10, I like this too but sounds a little more dated than [name_m]Alistair[/name_m] to me Wilfred - 10/10, I love the sound, the meaning, and the nicknames [name_m]Will[/name_m] or [name_u]Freddie[/name_u]. I also like [name_m]Wilbur[/name_m]. Francis - 7/10, I’m kinda neutral about [name_u]Francis[/name_u] myself, but it overall fits your style really well and sounds nice. Augustus - 4/10, I prefer [name_u]August[/name_u], personally. -us ending names are a little too “[name_m]Roman[/name_m] Emperor” for me. The nicknames [name_u]Gus[/name_u] or [name_u]Gussie[/name_u] are really cute though! Edmund - 10/10, love it for the [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m] connection, and it sounds really fresh while also being familiar Benedict - 2/10, while it’s perfectly usable and fits the list, I just strongly associate it with Benedictine monks and that makes it a little strange Rupert - 5/10, [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] is cute and slightly eccentric/quirky, but just not my style Percy - 3/10, nothing wrong with the name itself, I’m just not a fan of the er sound in general Joseph - 6/10, [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] is nice, just maybe a little plain compared to your other names?
Alistair - 1/10 I have visions of old men in [name_f]Scotland[/name_f] and [name_m]Alistair[/name_m] moody from [name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m]
Douglas 2/10 - again old men in [name_f]Scotland[/name_f]
Wilfred 3/10 I much prefer [name_m]William[/name_m] or [name_m]Alfred[/name_m] or [name_m]Frederick[/name_m]. And again [name_m]Wilfred[/name_m] has a much more old man feel
Francis 3/10 this is ok but I associate it more as a girl’s name - [name_f]Frances[/name_f]
Augustus 7/10 I really like this with [name_u]Gus[/name_u] as a nn
Edmund 5/10 it’s ok [name_m]Ed[/name_m] and [name_m]Eddie[/name_m] are great nn I immediately think of the [name_m]King[/name_m] who was killed and [name_f]Narnia[/name_f]
Benedict 7/10 beautiful meaning. [name_m]Ben[/name_m] is a great nn. Although the ending gives possibility for teasing and then there’s Cumberbatch
Rupert 6/10 I like [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] but I’ve never found a suitable shortening
Percy 7/10 I like [name_u]Percy[/name_u] but [name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] gives it a negative connotation, I also immediately think of [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] the tank engine and the historical [name_u]Noble[/name_u] family in [name_f]England[/name_f]
[name_m]Alistair[/name_m] -rugged and cool Douglas- quirky and clunky Wilfred-cool and vintage Francis- it’s okay Augustus-bold and intersting Edmund-it’s okay Benedict- reminds me a lot of the actor but it has a great meaning Rupert- sweet and cool Percy- cute and literary Joseph-safe
Alistair 6/10 I’ve personally never heard then name before but it’s cute!
[name_u]Douglas[/name_u] 2/10 sounds to much like an old man name
[name_m]Wilfred[/name_m] 0/10 I really don’t like this name
[name_u]Francis[/name_u] 7/10 So cute!
[name_m]Augustus[/name_m] 10/10 I love it!
[name_m]Edmund[/name_m] 3/10 Not my style
[name_m]Benedict[/name_m] 9/10 such a cute a name!
[name_m]Rupert[/name_m] 0/10 I don’t like this at all
[name_u]Percy[/name_u] 9/10 Cute!
[name_m]Joseph[/name_m] 7/10 I think that [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] is to popular of a name but still love the name!
[name_m]Alistair[/name_m]- 6/10, handsome almost daring name. Douglas- 0/10. Wilfred- 0/10. Francis- 0/10. Augustus- 6/10, I personally prefer just [name_u]August[/name_u] but [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] is handsome too. Edmund- 6/10. Benedict- 0/10, I just think of breakfast lol. Rupert- 0/10. Percy- 4/10, [name_m]Perseus[/name_m] nn [name_u]Percy[/name_u] is cool too. Joseph- 8/10.
Alistair 6/10 - nice name! I will say, that I’m pronouncing it as al-ih-STAIR, not uh-LIST-er. If you’re using the latter, then I’d give it a 1/10
[name_u]Douglas[/name_u] 1/10 - I’m not a fan, sorry
[name_m]Wilfred[/name_m] 5/10 - very cute! [name_u]Love[/name_u] the nickname [name_u]Freddie[/name_u]
[name_u]Francis[/name_u] 6.5/10 - nice name! [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_u]Frankie[/name_u]
[name_m]Augustus[/name_m] 4/10 - it’s nice, but a little OTT for me. I prefer [name_u]August[/name_u]
[name_m]Edmund[/name_m] 8/10 - such a handsome name! Fits all ages, which I really like. Very nice!
[name_m]Benedict[/name_m] 2/10 - not personally a fan of the sound or look
[name_m]Rupert[/name_m] 6.5/10 - very nice name!
[name_u]Percy[/name_u] 2/10 - I think it’s cute for a little boy, but I know a man in his 40s named this and it just doesn’t work for me (I think nickname names work perfectly fine on adults, just not this one)
[name_m]Joseph[/name_m] 6.5/10 - I have a newfound like for this name. I forget what spurred it on, but I’m happy about it! It’s a really lovely name, although I’m not a [name_m]Joe[/name_m] fan. [name_u]Joss[/name_u] would be my preferred nickname
@futuremama I think I pronounce it between the two - [name_m]Al[/name_m]-ih-STER, go [name_f]English[/name_f] accent. Guess he’s getting a 1 now The pronunciation is one of the things that make me like it less.
Thanks everyone! I think, as I expected, my favourites are getting some of the lowest ratings ([name_u]Douglas[/name_u], [name_m]Benedict[/name_m], [name_m]Augustus[/name_m], [name_m]Wilfred[/name_m]) but I’m coming to terms with liking some less popular names.
[name_m]Alistair[/name_m] 8/10 I know a little [name_m]Alistair[/name_m] and it’s made me like the name even more.
[name_u]Douglas[/name_u] 7/10 underrated.
[name_m]Wilfred[/name_m] 6/10
[name_u]Francis[/name_u] 8/10
[name_m]Augustus[/name_m] 7/10 I do tend to prefer [name_u]Augustine[/name_u] and [name_u]August[/name_u].
[name_m]Edmund[/name_m] 10/10 one of ny favorite names ever!
[name_m]Benedict[/name_m] 6/10 don’t love it, don’t hate it.
[name_m]Rupert[/name_m] 9/10 another favorite!
[name_u]Percy[/name_u] 6/10 it’s alright, stands up well on it’s own.
[name_m]Joseph[/name_m] 5/10 just bored of [name_m]Joseph[/name_m].
Pope names—[name_m]Benedict[/name_m], [name_m]Joseph[/name_m], and [name_u]Francis[/name_u]! I think [name_u]Francis[/name_u] and [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] are especially handsome. [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] could have the cute nickname [name_u]Teddy[/name_u].
Joseph-Such a beautiful, strong, classic name. It’s outdoorsy, a little artsy, tons of history. I really am not a fan of [name_m]Joe[/name_m] or [name_u]Joey[/name_u] for some reason, but I love [name_m]Joseph[/name_m].
Alistair-This is nice. Kind of quirky & charming. Not terribly complicated, but fairly unique.
Augustus-This is kind of epic & strong. It’s different but simple enough, & the nns [name_m]Augie[/name_m] or [name_u]Gus[/name_u] are adorable.
Francis-[name_f]My[/name_f] husband is in love w/this name for a boy. He thinks it sounds bada**. I’m not sure about that…but it’s kind of fun & unexpceted.
Edmund-I prefer [name_m]Edgar[/name_m], [name_m]Edwin[/name_m] or [name_m]Edward[/name_m], but I don’t hate this. [name_m]Just[/name_m] a little stuffy. I like the nns [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] or [name_m]Ned[/name_m].
Rupert-A little pretentious in my opinion, but not super awful.
Douglas-This is fine. [name_m]Just[/name_m] a little dated & uninteresting. I like the nn [name_m]Lad[/name_m]!
Percy-I like it as a nn for [name_m]Percival[/name_m], but sort of childish on its own.
Wilfred-It’s fine, but not my favorite. The nns [name_m]Fred[/name_m] or [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] are good.
Benedict-I like other [name_m]Ben[/name_m] names, but this one just sounds a bit too posh.
Augustus—I love it. This was my dad’s favorite name and he would have called me [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] [name_m]Maximus[/name_m] “[name_m]Auggie[/name_m] [name_u]Mo[/name_u]” had I been a boy. [name_f]My[/name_f] partner likes [name_u]August[/name_u], so [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] [name_u]Blaise[/name_u] “[name_u]August[/name_u]/Gus” made it on our list as a tribute.
Edmund—Very handsome and my partner’s favorite.
Alastair—Feels very gentlemanly. [name_f]My[/name_f] cousin’s grandson is [name_m]Alastair[/name_m] but it’s still on my list as a middle for [name_m]Charles[/name_m].
Francis—One of my favorites. I chose it as my name when I was confirmed. I’d list it higher, but I don’t love the nn [name_m]Frank[/name_m] and prefer the nicknames for [name_f]Frances[/name_f].
Benedict—An unexpected first for a little “[name_m]Benny[/name_m]”. I love when a common nn has an uncommon (but still recognized) full name and when a common fn has a quirky (still related) nn.
Joseph—[name_f]My[/name_f] partner is adamant about this being his first son’s name. I like it, and I am a bit smitten with the nn [name_m]Zeff[/name_m], but prefer the feminine fn. If I get my way our first girl with be [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f].
Percy—I like it, but not for my kids. I’d love to meet a little [name_u]Percy[/name_u] though.
Wilfred—I prefer [name_m]William[/name_m] as it’s a family name. I like that he’s got nickname options though!
Rupert—I prefer [name_m]Robert[/name_m] again because it’s a family name.
Douglas—Nicknames are one of my favorite things about names and I can’t get behind [name_m]Doug[/name_m] or think of other options.
