Rate the Try Out Names

I thought there was a thread for this, but I can’t find it, so here’s a new one. One poster will put up a name and the next person will give their opinions and post their try out name.

Example:

@poster_x
[name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f]

@poster_y
I think that’s a lovely and well balanced name! Blah, blah, blah, blah (please don’t say blah, blah, blah, blah, I just couldn’t think of anything more to say about it, haha)

Yva [name_u]Gray[/name_u]

I’ll start

[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] (last name would either be one syllable starting with a ‘G’ or two syllables starting with a ‘[name_f]Tu[/name_f]’)

[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] is very handsome and the names are well suited to each other.
I do like [name_u]Theo[/name_u] as a nn as well.

However, I dislike that both names are three syllables- not really a big deal, just a teeny bit sing songy.

[name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]

I like the flow and feel of [name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] though generally think the [name_f]Mae[/name_f] spelling as a first name looks a bit insubstantial.

[name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f]

[name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] - I like the names individually and the flow is fine, but [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] seems a little overly frilly to be paired with [name_f]Margot[/name_f] for my personal taste.

Spade [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]

Spade [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] - personally I think I prefer the flow of [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] Spade better but the names themselves pair together quite nice.

[name_u]Bryce[/name_u] [name_m]Donovan[/name_m]?

I think [name_u]Bryce[/name_u] [name_m]Donovan[/name_m] has good flow. I like the association [name_u]Bryce[/name_u] has with the beautiful [name_u]Bryce[/name_u] [name_u]Canyon[/name_u] National [name_m]Park[/name_m] in the USA.

[name_m]Jasper[/name_m] [name_u]Finn[/name_u]?

I love the flow and the look of the two names together. Very handsome. i don’t have anything negative to say about it at all~

[name_f]Pallas[/name_f] [name_f]Addie[/name_f] [name_u]Rain[/name_u]?

[name_f]Pallas[/name_f] [name_f]Addie[/name_f] [name_u]Rain[/name_u] - I feel like the balance of this combo is off. The names individually are fine, but I think having an uncommon name and a one syllable word name with a nickname sandwiched in-between just makes it feel off kilter. It think it would work better if either the second or third name was more substantial.

[name_f]Marin[/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]?

I like the name [name_f]Marin[/name_f], though I much prefer it spelled [name_f]Maren[/name_f]. I love the name [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]! I think [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Maren[/name_f] might flow better (depending on the last name).

[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]?

[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] - stunning! [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] is a firm favourite of mine ([name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] [name_f]Jolie[/name_f] has just dipped out my top 5 atm), it flows beautifully with [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] & with the recent rise of [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] I think it makes [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] more current although just as timeless.

[name_m]Macsen[/name_m] [name_m]Joel[/name_m]?

[name_m]Macsen[/name_m] [name_m]Joel[/name_m] - I actually had to look up [name_m]Macsen[/name_m] since I’ve never heard it before! I like this name. It sounds strong and substantial, yet short enough to be practical. [name_m]Macsen[/name_m] is interesting but not a modern, invented name, which wins it many points with me! There probably wouldn’t be more than one [name_m]Macsen[/name_m] in his class. [name_m]Joel[/name_m] is timeless and Biblical, which I think is good.

The only negative possibility is that [name_m]Mac[/name_m] as a nickname could destroy the sophistication of [name_m]Macsen[/name_m].

[name_f]Eleanore[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]?

I think the sound is sweet and I love [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] though I’d drop the -e at the end of [name_f]Eleanore[/name_f], as it only creates spelling and pronunciation problems for the child.

[name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f]

I really love both of the names! However, I think it would flow better with [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] in the front spot.

[name_u]Edmund[/name_u] [name_u]Schuyler[/name_u] [name_u]Nico[/name_u]?

[name_m]Edmund[/name_m] [name_u]Schuyler[/name_u] is great and works well, but [name_u]Nico[/name_u] kinda just feels tacked on the end. I think the combo id better without it. A second middle might work better if it wasn’t also two syllables.

[name_f]Irene[/name_f] [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f]?

Honestly, I think in that pairing each name makes the other sound awkward and a little matronly. Either name could use something softer and fresher to pair with.

[name_u]Mercury[/name_u] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m]

I used to love both names. I think the flow together is great, and I also like it in the reverse [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_u]Mercury[/name_u]

[name_f]Thalia[/name_f] [name_u]Dallas[/name_u] [name_f]Serenity[/name_f]?

[name_f]Thalia[/name_f] [name_u]Dallas[/name_u] [name_f]Serenity[/name_f] - [name_f]Thalia[/name_f] is pretty, and I really like [name_f]Thalia[/name_f] [name_u]Dallas[/name_u] as a combination. It’s different and creative, but still classy, and I like the matching vowel sounds. [name_f]Serenity[/name_f], though, makes me think of the adult diapers. I know I’m probably in the minority. I’m also generally not a fan of two middle names.

[name_f]Phillipa[/name_f] [name_f]Lark[/name_f]?

[name_f]Phillipa[/name_f] [name_f]Lark[/name_f] is lovely! It almost sounds ethereal, in a way. I expect her to be a happy, artistic little girl with the most adorable British accent, probably because I’ve always found [name_f]Philippa[/name_f]/[name_f]Phillipa[/name_f] to be a very British name. The only thing I have against it is the [name_f]Phillipa[/name_f] spelling–I feel like 99% of the time it’s spelled [name_f]Philippa[/name_f], so I’m afraid there might be spelling issues? Still, it’s gorgeous, and I love the built-in nn [name_f]Pippa[/name_f]! [name_f]Pippa[/name_f] [name_f]Lark[/name_f] is even adorable as a nn.

[name_f]Tessa[/name_f] Eugénie?

[name_f]Tessa[/name_f] [name_f]Eugenie[/name_f] - Beautiful, very classy yet it has spunky feel to it. I’ve always loved [name_f]Eugenie[/name_f], it’s one of the few ‘old lady names’ I actually do like probably because it feels so fresh & stands out from some of the other ‘older’ names being used lately, plus the nickname Geenie helps too. Strangely [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] has being moving up my list lately too, not sure I’d use it but it’s such a sweet sounding name, definitely ages well. The two names paired together is just beautiful you know they’d be so adorable on a baby but equally they’re going to age perfectly… just realised I’ve rambled on a lot there, sorry! Lol

[name_f]Kailani[/name_f] [name_f]Kendra[/name_f] - ‘KayKay or [name_f]Lani[/name_f]’ ?

I’m not a fan, to be honest. I’m not generally a fan of alliteration and I don’t feel like it flows very well. [name_f]Kenda[/name_f] [name_f]Kailani[/name_f] has a better cadence to my ear, but I’m still not a fan. I also don’t really feel like the styles of the names go together.

[name_m]Caspian[/name_m] [name_m]Raphael[/name_m]?
