I’ve been playing around with slightly unusual words names in my combos and I’ve come up with a few that I like. Would you mind rating them from your favorite to your least favorite? Id really appreciate it. Here they are:
A little tip: The words on the end give of the feel that you kind of just “tacked” the name on and didn’t really have much thought or meaning behind it.
[name]Just[/name] a little tidbit you may not have noticed.
So, they seem to have no meaning because I didn’t write a HUGE post explaining them all? And there’s a reason the word names are at the end of the combos also… I just asked for something simple, that’s why I didn’t feel the need to explain myself. As long as I can justify them to my partner and he likes them, that’s all I need. I really didn’t mean this to sound negative, but I didn’t ask for opinions. I know that sound terrible… I have my reasons and I’m kind of aggravated that it’s just ASSUMED that they have no meaning.
I didn’t assume they had no meaning.
I said: “* If I’m honest, I’m really not a fan of word names especially if there’s no strong tie to it.”
That’s not an assumption that your names have no strong tie. I’m putting a disclaimer out there on my personal opinions towards word names, so that you can keep that in mind when you view my rankings.
I tend to not like them at all in general, but that doesn’t mean because I don’t like them especially if they have no real meaning, that I think your names have no real meaning. It was a general piece of information I posted for your benefit when viewing my rankings.
It factors in: [name]Cora[/name] [name]Waverly[/name] Peach, it’s in the middle because I’m not a fan of the whole combo with Peach in it. However, had I known the reason behind choosing Peach, perhaps it’d be ranked higher etc. But I don’t know the meaning, so I can’t take that into account. Ergo, it gets ranked on my own personal likes/dislikes.
It’s a piece of information about MYSELF, that I felt was important for you to have when viewing my rankings.
Chances are had I known the reasons behind the names, my ranking scheme would be totally different.
I already ranked your girls’ names in your other thread, but here are my thoughts on your boys’ names:
My top five:
[name]Arthur[/name] [name]Benjamin[/name] [name]Grove[/name] - super handsome and sophisticated.
[name]Felix[/name] [name]Archer[/name] [name]Oak[/name] - sounds whimsical, but flows very well.
[name]Emmett[/name] [name]Bailey[/name] [name]Ash[/name] - Again, flows well
[name]Emerson[/name] [name]Bentley[/name] [name]Frost[/name] - I love everything but the [name]Bentley[/name].
[name]Oscar[/name] [name]Elias[/name] [name]Penn[/name] - I don’t like “[name]Penn[/name]”, but the rest is quite nice.
I don’t care for these:
[name]Holden[/name] [name]Bradley[/name] [name]Ace[/name]
Grayer [name]Charlie[/name] [name]Bay[/name]
[name]Gunner[/name] [name]Milo[/name] [name]Finch[/name] - I like [name]Milo[/name]!
[name]Marco[/name] [name]Giuseppe[/name] [name]Bear[/name]
[name]Tobin[/name] Escher [name]Lake[/name]
I wasn’t referring to your “disclaimer” actually. I meant the part you put at the end. Something along the lines of them just being tacked on the end and “didn’t have much thought or meaning behind it”. That is what bothered me. My boyfriend liked the idea of word names, but didn’t want them to be the first middle name so the kid would have a decent first middle they could use professionally. I like stranger, more abnormal names, but I’m realistic. I wouldn’t want my kid going around saying “thanks for naming me [name]Cora[/name] Peach, Mom. I sound like an exotic dancer.” Adding the Peach to the end of [name]Cora[/name] [name]Waverly[/name] honors my very southern mother, who makes AMAZING peach cobbler for pretty much everyone we know on their birthdays. I know that may not seem awesome to other people, but I love my mom and Peach just brings up great memories for me and probably will for my kids some day. They’ll more than likely have peach cobber instead of birthday cake too. Sorry, I didn’t mean to ramble. Like I said, I wasn’t trying to be negative. I just wanted to point out that they [name]DO[/name] have meaning and I just didn’t see the need in explaining it all.
Ahkay, well in that case I didn’t say that they were meaningless there either, I said:
"A little tip: The words on the end[b]give of the feel[/b] that you kind of just “tacked” the name on and didn’t really have much thought or meaning behind it.
[name]Just[/name] a little tidbit you may not have noticed. "
I didn’t mean that they didn’t have meaning, I meant that the organization of the names all being at the end gave off that feel. I still like some of them regardless such as [name]Emerson[/name] [name]Bentley[/name] [name]Frost[/name].
[name]Just[/name] a mention on how the names feel and might seem, I think some of your ideas would be even nicer if the word was placed in the middle rather than the end. Such as [name]Rosalie[/name] [name]Lucille[/name] [name]Poet[/name], I’d rank [name]Rosalie[/name] [name]Poet[/name] [name]Lucille[/name] higher.
Perfect.
Now that I’m aware of the personal meaning behind Peach, I do rank it higher. I think it’s a lovely way to honor your mother, and very sweet.
My main points were basically how I feel about word names, so that you’d keep it in mind when I’m ranking your names.
If I knew the meaning behind names, the list would look totally different, but since I didn’t and am usually not a fan of word names, it looks a certain way.
I didn’t want you to end up thinking one combo is less liked than another and potential rethink it when my tastes are rather different from yours. It was basically so you’d see where my opinions stem from and take them with a cup, rather than just a grain, of salt.
