so I mentioned to my grandma that I liked the combo [name_f]Gracie[/name_f] [name_f]Luella[/name_f]. she miss heard me and repeated “Raycie Ruella?” after I calmed down from almost peeing myself laughing, I relized that it’s actually kind of cute. and it now has a special connection to my grandma.
What do you guys think of Raycie? what would you use for a middle name?
it sounds like a nickname someone would give in a sassy retort to someone being racist… like, “well listen here, you raycie…”
then there’s also the actual word racy…

I agree with Abby… I don’t think it would be well recieved, especially with racism still ongoing.
[name_f]Gracie[/name_f] [name_f]Luella[/name_f] is so sweet though, stick with her!

Well, not to mention “racy” is in itself poorly connotated.

well… now I’m sad, I thought it was really cute and my grandma was so proud of it…
Sounds like racy or racist, I’m afraid

I know someone called Raisie (pronounced Rayzee) which might be a better option for the reasons outlined above.

Dreadful. Racy means naughty, risqué.

Unfortunately this name has some uncouth connotations (as mentioned by every other commenter). The suggestion of Raisie is quite cute to me, though I’m seriously very partial to your original name [name_f]Gracie[/name_f]!

It just sounds like the word “racy.” I’m not a fan. It’s unfortunate that that word exists, but it’s just a fact that it does.
Perhaps you’d like [name_u]Royce[/name_u] nn Roycie! One of my faves. Also, [name_f]Gracie[/name_f] is adorable.

it’s more of the fact that my grandma said it, I’m really close to her and I still think it’s adorable.
how about if you get your grandma’s opinions on other names she likes?? i mean, knowing that my grandma likes [name_f]Luna[/name_f] gives the name another bonus for me… what if you poll her on some of your favorites?? i imagine she’ll give you suggestions/feedback that can help with names already established without an off-putting connection
just a thought!

No need to nix the name if you like it a lot. If you think it’s adorable (and don’t mind that it is homophonic with a word that has unsavory connotations), then keep it on your list. Seems like this was a very formative memory for you!
OH!!! I didn’t know it was homophobic, I 100% can’t use it then… I didn’t understand what the word “racy” meant.
Homophonic (meaning two words spelt differently but which sound the same), not homophobic. Still worth looking into the definition of “racy!” It has, historically, been used to refer to homosexuality and queerness as a form of othering.
oh
I’m dyslexic and saw the b as and n. and I am taking Raycie off my list even though I still think it’s cute. I’m replacing it with Raisie (like Maisie)
No worries at all. Cute alternative!

Given the meaning of the word, no.

Try [name_f]Raizy[/name_f] instead? [name_f]Raizy[/name_f] is often used for the Yiddish name “Roza”, which means rose.
