Hmm, I would have voted for [name_m]Raymond[/name_m] “[name_u]Ray[/name_u]” outright, but your additional info gives me pause. I’ve never heard of [name_u]Ray[/name_u] [name_u]Rice[/name_u], but I’m British and not into sports. [name_m]How[/name_m] well known is he? To be honest, I think this would probably be a dealbreaker for me, sadly.
[name_m]Russell[/name_m] is my next favourite. I like both it and the rugged nickname [name_m]Russ[/name_m]. A touch dated, perhaps, but it’s never been particularly popular so doesn’t feel too emblematic of any era.
I love [name_u]Remy[/name_u], but I really don’t like [name_u]Remington[/name_u], I’m afraid. The gun connection is a big strike against for me, and it feels trendier than your other options.
A couple of other R ideas, just in case…
[name_u]Roscoe[/name_u]
[name_m]Rudyard[/name_m]
[name_m]Roland[/name_m]
Remiel
[name_m]Raphael[/name_m]
[name_m]Redmond[/name_m]
[name_m]Redding[/name_m]
[name_m]Roswell[/name_m]
[name_m]Rafferty[/name_m]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u]
[name_m]Reuben[/name_m]
[name_m]Robinson[/name_m]
[name_m]Rainier[/name_m]
[name_u]Reynold[/name_u]
Thanks, katinka!! [name_u]Love[/name_u] your well thought out advice and suggestions.
Unfortunately the [name_u]Ray[/name_u] [name_u]Rice[/name_u] case is pretty well known in the US. I am not at all a sports person, and it came to mind immediately when my husband suggested the name. It was huge news here outside of the sports realm, and became symbolic of the problems with violence against women in the sporting world. [name_m]Will[/name_m] likely end up being a deal breaker - such a shame since my husband and I both adore the name on its own!
Surprisingly, we don’t know any Remingtons but know quite a few Remys, so I worry about the trendiness from that standpoint. Combined with the gun association, I am cooling on this name as well.
Luckily we are both pretty in love with [name_m]Russell[/name_m]…although I may run a few of your suggestions by him!! I particularly like [name_m]Rudyard[/name_m], [name_m]Redmond[/name_m], [name_m]Redding[/name_m], and [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m]!!
I like [name_m]Russel[/name_m]. Yes, it’s a bit dated, but so are the other options. It seems to be kind what you are going for. [name_m]Russ[/name_m] is a cute nickname, and more youthful to me than [name_u]Ray[/name_u] or [name_u]Remy[/name_u]. Never heard of [name_u]Ray[/name_u] [name_u]Rice[/name_u] in the U.K., but if you think the connotation is strong where you live, I would steer clear
I’ve never heard of [name_u]Ray[/name_u] [name_u]Rice[/name_u] (also not American), but what you’ve said about it makes me think it’s not a great choice, unfortunately. I am not a fan of [name_m]Russell[/name_m], it’s definitely “dated but not in a good way” in my opinion and I don’t really like the nickname “[name_m]Russ[/name_m]”. I actually really like [name_u]Remington[/name_u] with your other kid’s names and I think [name_u]Remy[/name_u] is adorable. I wish I could help with other nicknames, but I’m drawing a blank. For what it’s worth though, I didn’t know [name_u]Remington[/name_u] firearms were a thing until I just googled it, my first association with [name_u]Remington[/name_u] is with the typewriters.
I’ve never heard of the [name_u]Ray[/name_u] [name_u]Rice[/name_u] case before, I’m American, but not into sports. It may be because of my age though, but I’m sure that those who are close in age to him will not know about [name_u]Ray[/name_u] [name_u]Rice[/name_u]. This association would put me off of [name_m]Raymond[/name_m], current adults would probably associate his name with the case.
[name_m]Russell[/name_m] is such a lovely name, I don’t think it’s dated in a bad way, I’ve only ever heard of younger Russells. I love using [name_m]Russ[/name_m] as a nickname.
[name_u]Remington[/name_u] goes so well with the names of your other kids! I’ve never heard of [name_u]Remington[/name_u] firearms, but that association would make me not want to use the name.
Nickname options for [name_u]Remington[/name_u]:
[name_u]Rex[/name_u]
[name_u]Ren[/name_u] / [name_m]Rem[/name_m]
[name_u]Red[/name_u]
[name_u]Reign[/name_u]
[name_u]Reggie[/name_u]
[name_m]Remo[/name_m]
[name_m]Ron[/name_m] / [name_u]Ronny[/name_u]
I like [name_m]Russell[/name_m], and don’t think it’s dated at all (though, I’ve been often told that my style is kinda dated). I voted for [name_u]Remington[/name_u], but [name_m]Russell[/name_m] came to a close second.
I really like [name_m]Raymond[/name_m] and I had no idea about the [name_u]Ray[/name_u] [name_u]Rice[/name_u] situation until you brought it up. If you’re into it, [name_m]Redmond[/name_m] is extremely similar to [name_m]Raymond[/name_m], has the same meaning, and has a cute nickname option (though that’s subjective, I think [name_u]Red[/name_u] is very cute).
I like [name_u]Remy[/name_u] best out of these (not [name_u]Remington[/name_u] so much). [name_m]Russell[/name_m] does seem dated to me, as does [name_m]Raymond[/name_m].
A couple of suggestions:
[name_m]Rowe[/name_m] (could be short for [name_u]Rowan[/name_u])
[name_u]River[/name_u]
