I’ve been going through genealogical websites (ancestry, familysearch and the like…I’m not doing genealogical research I’m just there for the names °-°) and I noticed how fluid names used to be not too long ago. People sometimes legally went by multiple different versions of their given name. Which got me thinking what if this became a thing again, what versions of my name would I use
If you had to use your own name as the starting point, and feel free to use your nameberry name or one of your oc’s names too, which versions would you go by? You can use different variants, diminutives, similar sounding names, translate your name, use the meaning, lengthen it, shorten it. Be creative I’ve seen some really stretchy names, but there’s probably no need to tell Berrys that
Prompts
What would you choose as…
- a version of your name that becomes your new legal name from now on?
- a neutral version of your name?
- a masculine/feminine version of your name?
- a version of your name in a different language?
- a obscure version of your name?
- a cottagecore inspired version of your name?
- a dark academia inspired version of your name?
- a royalcore inspired version of your name?
You probably already know this but behindthename let’s you search for names with similar sounds and meanings and shows you different versions of a name. Here’s also a list of diminutive suffixes you could play around with, be creative.
