Re-post. A poll to help with middle name

See the results of this poll: What middle name works best?

Respondents: 64 (This poll is closed)

  • Dane : 5 (6%)
  • Sloan : 5 (6%)
  • Griffin : 30 (35%)
  • Miles : 25 (29%)
  • Rhett : 9 (11%)
  • Boone: 11 (13%)

Oh gosh, that’s so sad. I am so sorry about your mother and that she won’t get to see her grandson. But I’m sure she’s happy knowing that your life is also about to be blessed as well. I think [name]Xander[/name] is a wonderful way to honor her. I like [name]Xander[/name] [name]Sloane[/name] the best, but I like the sound of [name]Xander[/name] [name]Garrett[/name] better than just [name]Rhett[/name]. [name]Xander[/name] [name]Griffin[/name] though is so full of meaning that I couldn’t not pick it either. So those are my three and why. Good luck honey. <3

ETA: I only cast two votes on your poll, for Sloane and Griffin because Garrett wasn’t an actual option.

[name]How[/name] sad! My heart goes out to you.

My favorite is [name]Xander[/name] [name]Miles[/name] (because of the sound but also the meaning), but I think the “s” and “S” in your last name might run together. None of the others jump out at me. Ideally, my vote would be for a middle name from your husband’s side of the family (that’s how I like to do it, but it may not be for you). What about [name]Xander[/name] [name]Drew[/name] – to try to still honor [name]Mildred[/name]? It feels like a one-syllable name would work best but [name]Dane[/name], [name]Boone[/name], [name]Sloan[/name], and [name]Rhett[/name] don’t do it for me. I voted for [name]Miles[/name], but I would have voted for [name]Garrett[/name] if it were there. What about [name]Luke[/name]? I know it doesn’t have any meaning for you, but it seems like it would sound especially nice.

Good luck with everything.

Definitely [name]Xander[/name] [name]Griffin[/name], because of its ties to your mother. I am so sorry to hear about your mother’s cancer - ((hugs)) to all of you.

I’m so very sorry about your mother. My mom is ill too and I can’t imagine losing her.

I voted for [name]Xander[/name] [name]Griffin[/name]. I think it sounds the best and it honors your mom.

[name]Xander[/name] [name]Griffin[/name] and [name]Xander[/name] [name]Miles[/name] have the best flow and both carry on wonderful family tradition and memories. Beautiful sentiments! Best wishes to you as you deal with such joys and sorrows all at once.

Thank you for your opinions and very kind words and sentiments. This is a very difficult and emotional time for our family but we take comfort in knowing that she was able to share some special moments with us talking about her grandson.

Name wise, I think [name]Xander[/name] [name]Miles[/name] sounds wonderful. Very masculine and strong. The only middle that I don’t think works well is [name]Rhett[/name], because [name]Xander[/name] ends in R, and [name]Rhett[/name] begins with R. So it molds together to sound like Xanderette. [name]Just[/name] a thought…

Thank you for all of your replies. Sadly my mom passed last week. Our only comfort is that she is no longer suffering.
It seems like the middle name has drawn a tie. I forgot to mention that there will be a third name “Bjorndahl” as the second middle name.
It is a long standing tradition on my husbands side for all the boys born to have Bjorndahl as a middle name.
So it will be either [name]Xander[/name] [name]Griffin[/name] Bjorndahl or [name]Xander[/name] [name]Miles[/name] Bjorndahl. Meaning behind the middle name aside which name do you think sounds better?
Fortunately I was able to tell my mom that the baby will be named [name]Xander[/name] after her before she passed. I’m just heartbroken that she didn’t get a chance to see her grandson. But I know that she will be with us in spirit.
Thank you everyone for your thoughts and opinions.

For some reason the thread was closed. But I was able to re-open it, so that it may now accept replies.

First of all, I’m so sorry for your loss. :frowning:

While I prefer [name]Xander[/name] [name]Miles[/name] Bjorndahl best, I love the significance of [name]Xander[/name] [name]Griffin[/name] Bjorndahl, too. [name]Do[/name] you feel like just [name]Xander[/name] honors your mom to your satisfaction, or is it just not enough? To me, [name]Xander[/name] is a perfect way to honor your mom, and it would be enough for me, but I remember when my grandmother just died, it wouldn’t have been enough. If that makes sense.

So my vote goes to [name]Xander[/name] [name]Miles[/name], but I think [name]Xander[/name] [name]Griffin[/name] is really great, too, if you feel like just [name]Xander[/name] isn’t enough.

Good luck!

I’m so sorry to hear of your loss. I think the names are beautiful, especially [name]Xander[/name] [name]Miles[/name] Bjorndahl S------
Gorgeous name.

I am so sorry about the loss of your mother! You have my deepest sympathy. I’m sure it meant a lot to her that [name]Xander[/name] is being named in her honor!

I think both of your choices sound very nice. I think, in this case, I’d recommend [name]Miles[/name] because it makes the very long name (with your 3-syllable surname) a tiny bit shorter.

Having just read that [name]Griffin[/name] further honors your mother, I vote for [name]Griffin[/name] instead. It would be such a meaningful name for your son!
