[name]Martin[/name]? I’m thinking [name]Mars[/name] would be a cool nickname option and it’s a family name for us. What do nameberries think/feel when they hear the name [name]Martin[/name]?
I think of a studious bookworm at first, but the more I think about it, the more I think about it, [name]Martin[/name] would work on all personalities.
I think of [name]Steve[/name] [name]Martin[/name] and I think the nn [name]Mars[/name] is awesome!
Tintin could be cute too.
I find [name]Martin[/name] a bit too much of a dad’s name (probably because I had a few friends with fathers with this name, and have an aunt named [name]Martine[/name]).
Wow, I hadn’t thought of this one but it is really wearble. I think, a kid would make it his own, it doesn’t have too much baggage. And [name]Mars[/name] is so obvious yet clever. I am a sucker for family names, if it were mine, I would go for it!
It reminds me of [name]Martin[/name] [name]Freeman[/name] a lot. Which is fine, I like him as an actor, but that’s really all I can think of. It still feels a bit dated to me, but it is handsome. I like it more as a mn.
My dad is [name]Martin[/name], and we gave it to our son for a middle name. It has a great deal of history and sentiment in our family (one of the first men born in [name]Canada[/name] on my dad’s side was [name]Martin[/name], and for hundreds of years now there has always been one in the family) I think it’d be cute as a first name!
I prefer [name]Marlon[/name], but I think [name]Martin[/name] is sweet and very usable! Plus on HIMYM there is a baby boy [name]Marvin[/name], which is similar, so I think [name]Martin[/name] wouldn’t be too unfamiliar to people.
I like [name]Martin[/name]. I think [name]Martin[/name] [name]Freeman[/name]'s rise helps it seem less “old” and [name]Mars[/name] definitely gives it some kick.
I don’t like the way my [name]California[/name] accent doesn’t really say the “t.” It’s like [name]Mar[/name] [glottal stop] in. But I did know a sweet dutch boy named [name]Martin[/name] and it was very cute on him. His brothers had these really awesome dutch names and he was just [name]Martin[/name].
[name]Martin[/name] would be our next son’s name if it were up to my husband! I don’t mind it but there are other names I like more (although this one is still a possibility). I really like the nickname [name]Marty[/name], [name]Mars[/name] isn’t really for us but it’s cool nonetheless.
Thank you everyone! It’s so helpful to get feedback and I’m happy it was overall so positive.
My first thought is the dad on [name]Frasier[/name] He was a good character, if that helps. I like the nns [name]Mars[/name] and [name]Marty[/name], so I think the name could be fun.
When I was pregnant with DD, [name]Martin[/name] was one of the only names DH came up with that I really liked. I think it’s fairly unexpected, but incredibly wearable. I think of [name]Martin[/name] [name]Freeman[/name] first (probably DH’s reason for suggesting it), then my long deceased great uncle [name]Mart[/name]. I think [name]Freeman[/name] helped me shake the 90’s sitcom [name]Martin[/name] ([name]Martin[/name] [name]Lawrence[/name]) association. Which is great, as Shanaynay was firmly attached to [name]Martin[/name] for me for a looooong time.
Makes me think of [name]Marty[/name] McFly (Back to the [name]Future[/name]), and [name]Martin[/name] [name]Prince[/name] [name]Jr[/name]. (the geeky kid in [name]Bart[/name]'s class on The Simpsons)
I have a cousin named [name]Martin[/name]. I’ve always thought the name was cool. [name]Martin[/name] sounds grown up and classy, while still being unique. [name]Marty[/name] is such a cute nickname for a little boy, but [name]Mars[/name] is good too, and a lot cooler.
I thinks its wearable. The only concern I’d have with calling him [name]Mars[/name] would be the potential teasing by calling him Martian. But that’s hypothetical and wouldn’t be enough to stop me. Overall a good choice.
It’s not my style but I do like it, It would be great to meet a little [name]Martin[/name]. The NN [name]Mars[/name] is so cool, too!
[name]Love[/name] it! The kind of name he can grow with.
ETA: a friend used it as a middle for her 6yo. And the baby on “[name]How[/name] I Met Your Mother” is [name]Marvin[/name].
[name]Martin[/name] is a quirky, cool name. I approve.
