I have been a name lover for as long as I can remember, and have collected huge lists of favorites. Over the years I’ve created many imaginary combos and sibsets, but recently I found out I’m actually expecting. A real live human baby. Which is making me reevaluate every name on my list and as it turns out, I don’t really [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] anything. It’s so much easier to love a name for an imaginary person than it is for a real one!
I’d love if you could suggest me some of your favorites. I have no idea what gender baby is yet (So far my gut says girl, but I haven’t found out so looking for boy suggestions too, just in case) My style is pretty all over the place so any suggestion is welcome! I also have a similar post in the girls thread for those who want to give me some girl names!

I think you have great name taste and I love all of your suggestions, even [name_m]Viggo[/name_m]! It sounds to me like you like Irish/Scottish names, or slightly Germanic/Scandinavian names - classics with a twist. Sounds like maybe you’d like a classic name paired with something more unusual as a middle, or vice versa, or something unusual that can be shortened to something ‘familiar’.
I spotted [name_u]Kit[/name_u] in your signature - I know a little kid called [name_u]Kit[/name_u] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] and it is such a lovely name for a handsome little boy.
I also love [name_u]Max[/name_u], and know a [name_m]German[/name_m] guy called [name_m]Maxim[/name_m] and it’s such a cool name that really suits him. I also know a [name_m]Maximilian[/name_m] (an adult) which is a pretty heavy weight name, he goes by [name_u]Max[/name_u].

I agree that naming your real baby is harder than just having dozens of favorite names. I have an expansive excel sheet of names and name combos that I love… but naming this 3rd baby is proving to be more difficult than the first two! I think because I know I’ll never name another baby again after this?

[name_m]Ronan[/name_m] and [name_m]Maxim[/name_m] are my favorites from your list but I noticed [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] in your signature and that’s a definite favorite of mine. I thought I’d also chime in that I know a 10 year old [name_m]Viggo[/name_m] and it works well for him. His parents are totally normal people and sisters are [name_f]Nina[/name_f] and [name_f]Gabriella[/name_f] so not an “out there” kind of family. So if you love it, I wouldn’t hesitate to use it.

I like [name_m]Viggo[/name_m] too, actually. I love [name_m]Samson[/name_m], [name_u]Sage[/name_u], and [name_m]Maxim[/name_m] most on your list - in fact, [name_m]Maxim[/name_m] is probably my favorite of the three. I love it so, but hesitate on it as a FN because I think of the men’s magazine.
Not sure if this would be an issue, though.

I was a little worried about the magazine association but it’s still my favorite way to get to the nickname [name_u]Max[/name_u]! Unfortunately my SO isn’t as crazy about it.
I love [name_m]Viggo[/name_m]! It’s pretty common where I live ([name_u]Sweden[/name_u]), but I think it’s usable in English speaking countries as well.
