what do you think of Dandy for a girls name…

does it sound like a

  1. stripper

  2. a candy

  3. a pets name?

or does it sound like a legit persons name?

It just makes me think of the Dandy comic book with Desperate [name]Dan[/name] and Bananaman etc

Sorry, when I first saw Dandy, all I could think of was stripper. I can’t really imagine it on a little girl (or really anyone, for that matter).

It makes me think if dandy’s and dandyism which has to do with men who want to be refined and elegant. It was a movement in the past that is similar to metrosexualism (that’s the best I can describe it) I think if you Wikipedia it you can find out more. It was used to describe effeminate or gay men, and probably just men in touch with their emotions. I think oscar Wilde was probably considered a dandy. The phrase is sometimes still used in France.

I could be wrong but I thInk that’s where the term Yankee doodle dandy comes from.

I just realized my post doesnt sound that considerate of some people, I meant to say the term dandy was also used to describe people who were effeminate, presumed to be gay, in touch with their emotions. I’m not actually calling anyone a dandy!

I’m sorry, but it does sound like it would be a good name for someone in the adult entertainment industry. I can imagine [name]Reba[/name] McEntyre showing up and singing about [name]Fancy[/name]'s sister Dandy.

I also think of Belldandy from the Oh, My [name]Goddess[/name] manga, which is more positive, but I think it would be best as a pet’s name.

I think of a pet for Dandy, it’s to vintage for a stripper…well I guess it could be a stripper from the 40s. Anyway you can always use [name]Tandy[/name] it’s a native American name that means flower and in a short story by [name]Sherwood[/name] [name]Anderson[/name] is described as being “the quality of being strong and being loved. It is something men need from women and that they do not get.” It’s is unique and very lovely.

I think of dapper dandies, too. And that everything’s “fine and dandy.” It’s too vintage to connote a stripper for me, but I could see it on a pet. Not so much a child.

Yankee Doodle Dandy comes to mind. I wouldn’t think stripper before you said it but now the association is kind of there. In general it just doesn’t sound like a name at all. It could work as a cute name for cute little kids and things but I’m having a little trouble seeing it on an adult.

oh right…I gotcha…like a [name]Jim[/name] Dandy…that makes sense…

thanks for everyones feed back super big help! thanks

I think of an effeminate man from long ago like [name]Oscar[/name] Wilde maybe

I also think of effeminate men.

If you love it it could be a nn for [name]Pandora[/name] as Pandi.

I thought of the male arrogant yet elegant image when I read Dandy too.

Dandy is not so “fine and dandy”… (corny, but still)
